Nick seeing as we have a decent amount of time now, and given your position, perhaps we could try and organise something against the bubble?
There's enough evidence to show that it makes no difference to safety and is a significant cost on normal fans, both from a time and money perspective.

Not sure that the night game in 2019 saw less trouble, there was major disorder which saw 7 men jailed as in this link

Most of the issues with the bubble game at Fratton related to the throwing of missiles between the two sets of fans after the final whistle.
I have been attending Saints Pompey games since 1974, there has always been trouble,, there hasnt been one trip to Fratton in that time, when you could go down by train to Fratton or Portsmouth, walk out the station and go to a local pub.
Pretty similar at our place as well.
Since 1987 I have been down to Pompey by train on every occasion that I have been able to , in 87 we went and had a few drinks in Portsmouth, but there wasn't many Pompey fans around the crowd was only 17,000, since then no chance.
Most of the other derby's are either in the same city ie Liverpool/Everton or between places that are too far away to have a real inter city hatred ie Brighton & Palace.
Sunderland V Newcastle have tried it without bubbles, but there transport infastructure makes that viable, both grounds here dont allow you to do that, ie Pompey is just one straight road from Fratton Station and past the home end to the away end and St Mary's is again a straight road just much longer and through the city centre. |
i don't know why you keep on bringing up pubs Nick, no one is suggesting that we go to a pub there, it's not going to happen (and personally i don't want to put a penny in their economy too).
But the train really isn't some excuse for mass running battles, i've been going to Fratton since the 90s and outside of maybe two games it's really never been that bad, and the league cup game was an absolute doddle, in fact the worst we got was from the police.
As for other clubs there's plenty of derbies that aren't same city that don't have a bubble, and whilst i'll concede the game at ours is probably harder to manage than the one at theirs neither are impossible.
The fact of the matter is the bubble isn't needed and fans should be allowed to make their own way, the FSA supports this view (for all games) and they're hardly going to back things that endager fans | | | |

I keep on going on about pubs because what else would anyone do other than go for a drink lol
We havent played that many down there, but they have been doddles because we have been surrounded by police, hence the lateness to the ground and after the game we have been kept in for 30 -60 minutes whilst the police cleared the roads usually with a lot of missile throwing and bus stops wrecked enabling us to walk fairly easily back to the station.
Yes there are plenty of other derbies that arent played in the same city, but few are of the size of Saints/Pompey and therefore being on a smaller scale are manageable. |  |
