Did anyone watch England v NZ test match.
I was shocked that Ben & the Team Management decided to announce his retirement half way thru the 4th day of a Test Match.
Then for him to open the Batting & play Kamikaze Cricket by swinging at everything & giving his wicket away.
It set the trend & others did exactly the same.
I found the whole thing a tad embarrassing.
It looks like they decided that Stokes's ego was more important than the result.
Apologies for this post to non cricket fans (which is what I am).

I didn't see that way at all.
For me that bloke has earned the right to announce his retirement whenever he wants. Apparently, having told the ECB of his intentions in the morning, they suggested the timing. I don't know if that's true but...it doesn't matter anymore.
As for the the run chase, we only had one chance to win that game which was to open up with Duckett and Stokes to bazzball a 150+ start and let the others go at the rest in an aggressive but controlled fashion.
The gamble failed but, hey ho, gambles can fail...the clue's in the name.
It's what came next that was a w*nkfest..

Very strange, if you dont intend to play on, then he should have retired rather than accept the Captains role back, or have done so after end of this test.

I've not forgiven Stokes and McCullum for forcing Jimmy Anderson to retire before he'd overtaken Shane Warne's record. He only needed 5 more wickets. That left a sour taste. They should have allowed him to stay until the end of the series. It's not as if they had anyone as good to replace him, so they just weakened the England attack and left England's greatest ever bowler feeling frustrated at the way his career ended. Why not try and draw the game by putting in the hard yards. They only had to bat 3.5 sessions. We hadn’t lost a home series in 20 odd years and that record gets thrown away on a whim. Bon the lot the management and start again , that team is a shambles. Theres a clip going round of the New Zealand cricketers going what the f uck are they doing while laughing as they took brooks wicket |  |

If he did in fact tell the ECB his intentions in the morning it would have been an almost certainty in this media driven world we live in, that the news would have leaked by lunch time.
The government can’t even keep details of cabinet meetings secret so what chance the ECB ? | |
