I did at the time. From things he said , it was obvious he was a big Maradona fan and wanted Argentina to win.
The fact he kept that ball as a treasured memento of the Hand of God goal shows he was proud of his part in it. Everyone on the pitch saw it was hand ball, including him. [Post edited 24 Aug 12:00]

Not disputing what you say there, but if someone is prepared to pay stupid money for it then why not. Yes, it's morally wrong, but it's a couple of million quid in the bank. | |

I should imagine Tunisian referees don't earn much, and may be more starstruck or tempted to be corrupt at World Cup finals than those from the top leagues. | |

Your observations are spot on. Everyone knew as you rightly say. I’d go as far as to say England were hated by FIFA and UEFA at the time, it was only 12 months after Heysel so English teams were 1 year into a 5 year ban from European football at club level. The stigma surrounding English football fans affected the England team too IMO so what Maradona got away with was no surprise as a result. I reckon if that handball had been against Brazil or one of the other top European teams the goal would not have stood. |  | | |
