I have found the NHS to be very good in my experience but it is coming under a lot of criticism and so is the Senedd. Tha people can complain but if they want better services they will have to pay more.

We have in global terms a cheap service. The cost of private health show you how expensive these provisions are . Pay more get a better service

We in Wales can get better funding with a swipe of a pen. We gave fallen behind England and need to catch up . Around £624m would be saved by abolishing FREE PRESCRIPTION CHARGES.. Want the same service? Then get in with it. We are a democracy. It is about £20 a citizen. Older people in properties with £250k plus fully paid off are pleading poverty.

My wife works in the nhs at a fairly decent level in primary care. Is dedicated and takes her job seriously and is commited. However, the stuff she comes back with about staff taking the piss (not all but sufficent to effect the standard of service) and doing things that would lead to the sack in the private sector. Managers are wishy washy and cant manage because they are afraid of the unions.

My wife is NHS too and I can back you up there., she often moans about people taking the piss In fact I've heard (from friends who work there) that whistleblowers often come off worse and end up leaving with a pay off, after signing an NDA while the source of the whistling is left to carry on. One of my friends, a nurse had to move sites after making a complaint, the person she complained about remained, she felt she was punished for raiising a concern.

First paragraph, the NHS could be much better managed, the changes to trusts has been a cock up and more money is wasted than before with outcomes getting worse too.

Second paragraph, private healthcare doen't reflect the real costs of treatments are but shows what happens when profits are put before outcomes. For example, you can buy a box of paracetamol in a chemist but when a doctor prescribes the same size box the cost is around 15-20 times more. It's a bloody poor management and governance, these contracts were signed meaning the NHS pays a lot more than off the shelf at chemists and supermarkets and it makes me wonder who profited from these deals, besides the big pharma companies.

Last paragraph, those older people in big houses with no mortgage, they are most likely OAP's struggling to get by and cannot afford more. The pragmatist in me says they should sell up and downsize, use the spare cash to live on and have a more comfortable retirement but many people feel an attachment to the family home and can't face leaving. Maybe I am too much a pragmatist? I'd sell up and move and use the spare cash for lots of holidays!

A final thought on the over all content, if you expect Westminster to give us loads more then you will be disappointed. If you expect the enedd to do better, you will be disappointed. If you think it is simply a case of pay more get better then you are on the wrong track.
The NHS needs root and branch changes, better structure, better management, better oversight from politicians, in other words there's no chance. The poor staff do their best with limited resources, well the good staff do. There atre too many these days who don't really care, it's a pay packet these days to many, not a vocation.

To back up the observations about staff, one of my neighbours works on a high dependency ward. She has numerous stories that are not acceptable, the latest is about a patient who was being maintained by machines, when they sadly died to the consultant and anaesthetist refused to turn off the equipment because " the next shift can do it "

How on earth people think this is okay is beyond me.

Regarding OAPs moving , not so simple for a lot who rely on a network to help out with care welfare and the basics , we’ve considered moving from a 3 bed to a small bungalow but we’ve found that a bungalow which are available to buy tend to be dearer that the value of our home or if cheaper need work so we’ll have stay put . We’ve all heard the stories about the cost of a light bulb inside a hospital and the hoops that needs to go through and that is replicated throughout the NHS .

I see the three up arrows as a validation actually, when I check who they were from. I was a whistle blower on my time and as all Whistle blowers know, all your supporters disappear when push comes to shove. We a a cowardly people.

The post was not a wind up. It was simple assessment that is Welsh people want parity with England the first thing we need to do is free up the £600m + blown on free prescriptions charges. I am not immune from this myself so it is not self interest. People prefer to blame the NHS or Senedd.

You continue to go after the poster rather than the topic along with your sidekick Max. You see this with forums. The rump of regular s like to control the narrative. This saw the end of a previous forum I was on. I will not be gaslighted.

Pensioners should not be allowed to shelter their wealth in bricks and mortar. They can have a pensioners low cost loan to pay for prescriptions deducted on execution of the estate will. Rich people should not be on any benefits.

I like to think I give a little extra energy to the forum. I start threads and debate enthusiastically as Welsh patriot. No threads no forum.

What do you think of scrapping prescription fees and freeing up £624m extra for front line services ? I would also remove dentistry ( other than emergencies)

I don't think about any of it, I've far more important stuff to think about, than about things that I haven't got control over.
I do know that Dentistry isn't free.

Parity with England wouldn't mean an end to free scripts, 89% of Englsih scripts are free because of exemptions so parity with England would save about 80 million, maybe you should check your facts?

Removing dentistry is a shockingly bad idea and reeks of selfishness.

You call yourself a patriot yet want to introduce measures that would make life harder for most Welsh people. If all dentistry were private then a lot of Welsh people would suffer.

When you say " debate enthusiastically" there would be several people who disagree, they would say you spout nonsense with facts that aren't really facts (like the 624 million saving) and when people do disagree with you, you accuse them of being in a clique or a group and picking on you. Maybe you should consider that a debate needs other peoples opinions?

Wales does not need the same exemptions as England and an make its own rules. The saving could be anything between £80m and £624m as determined by the Senedd.

Welsh people are blaming the Government for the Welsh NHS and £624m is spent on a wasteful free prescriptions which could be spent on front line services.

NHS dentistry is not done to he same principles as this appears to me to be "first come first serve" and south Wales people puling strings and playing the system. I was always working and not had a NHS dentist for 40 years. I pay £200+ a pop for fillings etc . It is not selfish because I pay. So should everyone else except perhaps children. It is a two tiered service.

The Welsh Government and UK Government should not be afraid to make people pay more for the NHS service if that is what people want. The simplest is to abolish free prescriptions.

The NHS in England has better services because they notionally have between £80m and £624m more to spend on services per head not on drugs.

Re the perscriptions. Wife used to do ward rounds. People would be told to take parcetamol and would refuse to leave until they had it perscribed by a hospital pharnacist. Some would wait for hours to get it for free rather than pay what 30p in the shop and therefore could not get discharged. Aot of the nHS ills are not just Down to bad management and staff, the general public alsi have alot to answer for. How many get given an appointment but dont turn up etc.

Don't talk to me about the appointment system. The doctor asks you to have a blood test. Previously the next day you took your form with you and picked up your ticket number on arrival and waited. Now go home and book online and nothing for 3 weeks. WTF is that all about.

And there you have it, the world according to Resloven, he'd make medicine unaffordable for a lot of people.
For example, a person on blood pressure meds could be taking 4 different tablets which comes in at nearly £40 every 4 weeks, my wife takes 7 different tablets for Epilepsy which is nearly £70. So you take all the free meds away and what is the outcome, how many cannot afford their tablets and end up in hospital?

The York Health economics consortium ( as well as other health charities and health economists ) have done research that suggests free prescriptions actually save the NHS money over all.
So Resloven, your idea that we could save over 600 million could, according to experts, actually cost us much more in long term costs.
Where the line should be drawn is in prescribing things that can be bought off the shelf at supermarkets, a box of parecetamol for example, it costs about 40p but a script costs the NHS over £5, that is the place savings can be made.

Now dentistry, you say it is not selfish because YOU pay. If you can afford it then well done but there are very many people who cannot afford private dentistry. Again, if they don't get treatment the knock on effects to health would cost the NHS a vast amount of money.

You believe people should pay more because YOU can afford to, that is the nonsense. You would push healthcare back to pre NHS days where if you can't pay you won't get treatment. Very patriotic to condemn more Welsh people to ill health while at the same time costing the NHS more money.

The NHS in England maybe has better services because of better management, here in Wales we have maybe had worse services because of poor governance.
You would have people pay out a lot more at a time of a cost of living crisis, that is extremely selfish. You have no empathy, you relate every post to your own circumstances and show no care nor understanding for anybody else's situation.

Finally, I haven't said to anybody else not to engage with you, even if I did it wouldn't be as low ball as what you suggest which is to put health care beyone the means of very many Welsh residents. Again, that is selfish.

Everything about the NHS is regressing dispite what a certain poster says , regarding blood tests I have to have them regularly so I have to like everyone else has to wait a month before getting an appointment but of course you can have one at your convenience but you have to pay for the privilege ,on the positive side we have a newly qualified doctor in our surgery whose very keen but will like all the rest be ground down and be as invisible as all the rest by Christmas time.

There you go ‘spouting sh1t’ again.

You need to understand why in Wales there is a free prescription service.

Clue: reduced NHS burden and cost at secondary care level.

Wales has an ageing population whom a lot are living on low income. Not having access to medication would create more cost for the NHS. Unless of course they died. Maybe that’s in your thinking?

Free prescriptions is one of the few initiatives the WG have got right.
