The whole weekend vibe around football, how you got your news and how you spent the weekend.

For those who can recall of course.

After the game hanging around the old bus station waiting for the sporting post to come out with the results and reports. If it was late missing the bus home and another hour wait. Home for tea, then Parky on the TV followed by match of the day at 10pm.

Mid 1980s, I remember legging it from the Vetch to the Radio Rentals shop near the corner of The Quadrant/Oxford Street to catch the results of the other games. Had to be quick or else the results page would change to the next league 😄👏😄👏!!

Saturday Afternoon on The North Bank , walking back to where the Bus Depot is now instead of that Wilkinsons Swansea now has to tolerate .

The Sporting Post ink still stained your hands , but was a local post match icon.

Tuesday night under the floodlights will be a setting I will never forget though and them great memories still abide .

Comparisions to The Liberty will still be open to debate , I know my answer anyway .

Well Wilkinson has long gone but yes. The atmosphere was much better especially the cold floodlit games. It had a very special feel.

Don’t forget the seafood sellers in the pubs in the night as well, crab sticks, prawns etc.😬

Are Sperm Whales the reason the sea is so salty?

I was remembering last night after watching an episode of shed and buried, how at times I@d be travelling back after a night game to Port Talbot along Fabian way in the pouring rain and gusting wind full throttle on a Honda 90.
this morning, I@m thinking how lucky I was the bike wasnt pinched while i was the game!
I went to watch Cardiff once mid 70s on a bigger bike, and once again Im thinking how the heck it was still there at the end!

A part of my love for SCFC left me when we left the Vetch Field.

I still love "The Swans" but feel like its like an ex girl friend who you're still friends with

Got to be honest, the older I get the less I want my life to revolve around football. I'm quite happy to be able to.do.other things when we're away and have missed more home league games in the last two or three seasons than I did for about 15/20 years beforehand because other stuff came up.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

As well as it being an age thing, we are now swamped with multiple games daily, , that seems to water down the enthusiasm and interest, most times the tv is like a fish tank in the corner and you only take an interest when somethong happens....which these days id very rare!

However football remains a welcome distraction from reality
Sport is a release from pain trouble health worry and fear
It’s why it’s importsnt

It was the weekend routine of bygone years, watching BBC Football Focus, ITV Saint and Greavsey as an appetizer before the game kicked off, entering into the Vetch and immediately/excitedly looking up at the camera gantry to see if the game was being televised and like mentioned i.e. getting the Sporting Post .

Used to love going to the Vetch 79 onwards with the Pembrokeshire lads, loads of punks and Skinheads in 4J’s . Buller was the main man then, used to sort out the logistics for utilising the pubs around the ground, some now long gone. His plans were so magnificent it usually ended with, ‘Just get stuck into them’ At that young age there is no fear, you are invincible. None of it stands up today as a day out. But we were so young and enthused by a movement that changed the face of the UK and still does today we didn’t care.

Like minded young kids with a youth movement that took the world by storm, just being with these people back then, many long gone was a part of our growing up. Learning the hard way but doing it our way.

Then there was one Ian Bone !
