Brighton Game Matchday Thread on 17:47 - Dec 7 with 1649 views | Chesham_Saint | To get the ball rolling... I despise and loathe portsMyth. Boscombe are just irritating and silly. Brighton - I don't actually mind. Had some good away days, including some feisty ones in the 80s, plus they don't like the skates which is a big plus. Although to be honest they've dodged a bullet there by not trying to create too much of a rivalry with the 'Myth (a bit like their supposed 'arch rivals' Palace who can't cope with Millwall so settle for bitch slapping with Hove instead). Also I sympathised with the appalling way they were fvcked over on their ground.

When they first started to get good in 1977 we had a bit of rivalry with them, but after they went down in 1983 that slowly dissipated till it was virtually zero as it is today

I think the hostile reception Brighton fans and players used to get from Saints' fans in the late 70s is one of the reasons Mark Lawrenson has hated Saints ever since. I remember when they first got promoted. their fans in the Archers and their players taking corners got pelted with coins and assorted other missiles.

£75 million in transfer fees between them, only Stephens didn't cost anything, the transfer fees paid for the starting line up are only about £5 million more

Brighton have a much stronger squad this season too. Maupay is on the bench for them and unfortunately for us, Welbeck, who likes to score a goal or two against us, including headers like the one Cavani scored unchallenged in our last game, is starting. Our subs bench is weird. Why have Ings, Redmond AND Long, and Salisu AND Stephens??? [Post edited 7 Dec 2020 19:15]

The bench has balance aside from the Keeper which is obvious you have Stephens - Can play centre back or full back on either side. Salisu- I agree this is a bit weird given he hasnt played an actual game in 5 months and is essentially a central defender Diallo, good holding midfielder who can also play a more forward role if needed Redmond - can play as a winger or an attacker Ings - Striker Long - striker So a good balance across all areas although Im surprised they havent opted for a more utility style player like Smallbone instead of Salisu

I just don’t think he should start he is much more effective off the bench He gives the ball away 9 times out of ten
