If we had any ambition we would sign him

As soon as he arrives, people on here would be saying sell him quick, he’s too old and recoup some wages.

Absolutely Nick, Gao and Semmens must go if we fail to secure his services

Redderz to Barca?

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

I think someone was applauding Messi for staying and showing commitment to Barcelona the other day at a reduced pay deal. Well now he can show his real love of the club and play for YTS money £25 a week. He has a personal fortune of $400 million dollars and at 34 years of age ( Barca gave him a 5 year deal ) so if he loves the club and not a 'whore' what should he do.... LoL !

As you well know Bison, that person was me (I hope that you aren’t bullying me?). I also used Walcott as an example and there are plenty of other players who do take a pay cut when they move, but hey, let’s just use this one example to disprove my point.

You’d think Koeman would be kind enough to let us have a Ronnie Ekelund clone……

Messi was a bad point to make as they just doubled the length they would pay him the same wages and at 34 years of age you could see he was still money orientated not loyal to the club he has been at since he was 12 years old. So instead of $1.2 million a week over 3 years he took $600,000 over 5 years with the knowledge he was going to get paid way past his best. I think you just didnt do enough research on that before you started typing.....

Theo , I sort of agree with you on. Perhaps we were the best team for him and the lad looked at the bigger picture rather than just $ signs. I am hoping he comes good this season but I think he is less mercenary than most of the suicidal football millionaires.

Although Theo, who left us for Arsenal at 16 years old, also took the option to join Everton a few years back, apparently instead of us as obviously they paid more than us. He has had his career now hasn't he and earnt his millions. He now has a net worth of 30 million and probably didn't have any other better offers at 33 years old or whatever he is, but yeah he came back here in the end, I will give him that.

Yep, back when we wanted him a while back, he chose Everton. But he was younger and more sought after then.

Yes Messi was a poor example and I hold my hands up, I did no research and just went with the headlines that he had taken a 50% pay cut (more fool me for believing the Mail 😉). However, my point remains the same. Not every player just moves for more cash. I plucked 2 out of the air but if I had the time and inclination I could have found plenty of other examples (I doubt if Jankewitz is on more now than when he was with us). Before I get jumped on again, football is a unique business where a player at their peak can maximise their earning power by going for the “last big pay packet” so of course many will go for more money if it is offered.
