| Armstrong new position 08:55 - Aug 31 with 769 views | saint901 | The new starting position for Armstrong (A) seems to suit him. He's a sort of left half - perhaps a bit more forward - which gives him a chance to pick the ball up a little deeper and use his undoubted pace to run at defenders. Last season he was either wider and running channels or further forward competing for the ball and then having to turn. He can take his new position because the midfield has been shuffled. The midfield is now narrower because the full backs are expected to push into that space whilst the CBs and Lavia take care of the centre. I suspect that Armstrong's starting position is only perhaps 15/20 metres from last season but it suits him and he's clearly fired up. I'd like to think it was an idea from RH. However he didn't do it last season so I suspect it's one of the other coaches. | | | | |

Last season Ralph didn't have the players to play the way he wanted, now he has 5 new signings who have revitalised the squad

| Armstrong new position on 10:54 - Aug 31 with 635 views | StAnt | The position suits Adam Armstrong because he has pace and tenacity to trouble defences out wide and he never stops running. His hard work is done in both the offensive and defensive areas. He has played the position before for Blackburn so it is not new to him. If he can regularly find those pockets of space in the box with intelligent movement like last night I am sure we'll see more goals from him. Big shout out to Perraud for spotting him and playing a beautiful cut back pass to perfection. | | | |

As for an attacker, his defence displays yesterday were really good, and getting a goal on top of that only sums up of how much of a great game he had. Still I’d certainly be up for another young Shane long who will get a few more goals for us this season!

Last season his aerial and 50/50 presence against CBS made little impact. He is now much more of a threat, and it is great to see his pace being utilised. Hopefully something has been learned so that we can better utilise Tella when he comes back.

So pleased for him to finally get a goal - since Villa at home last season. He has certainly put in a few shifts of late. He is deceptively quick and the amount of running he did last probably topped the charts. What impressed me was his sprinting back to help defend and desire to chase the balls pumped into the channels - even in the last 10 minutes when players are generally a little tired. I just wish he would choose better options in the opposition's box and get some power in his shots. Last night in the first half, he tried to shoot from a tight angle when the lay off was the better option and he scuffed a few other chances. Hopefully his form will continue and it will keep the likes of Djenepo, Redmond and Walcott out of the side !!

Every single time, it's a spin in favour of the manager. Perfectly sensible for 901 to conclude that it's down to the new coaches. Do you have any evidence at all for saying that it was 'probably a bit of both'?? It only doesn't matter if you're not interested in understanding where the tactical power lies. Ralph had Adam Armstrong for the whole of last season, and he's like a brand new player this season. He was my MOTM last night. Absolutely brilliant.
