| So now the window is shut.... 09:04 - Feb 1 with 1626 views | Butty101 | If fit, the following have to start in their right position every game and no more bloody 5 at the back. KWP, Perraud, Duje Ćaleta-Car, Salisu or BellaKotcha, Lavia, JWP. The other 5 places are up for grabs. Ive no idea if the 2 signed yesterday are any good! The following should not be anywhere near the first team Bednerek, Lyanco, Maitland-Niles , Diallo, Walcott, Djenepo | |

A holistic approach to football management that would make Dirk Gently proud [Post edited 1 Feb 2023 10:18]

| So now the window is shut.... on 10:38 - Feb 1 with 1484 views | 1885_SFC | Well... from here on in, Shorty Jones can hardly say the board hasn't backed him. Considering the January window is notorious for bringing in quality players, we've done quite well on paper. I'd have imagined Everton's new manager Shaun Dyche was promised a striker when taking over Goodison and in the end they bought no one - leaving their fans raging mad. If Shorty can just drop the 5 at the back nonsense, especially with the new speed merchant in midfield & the tall new striker up front who knows how to score, we might - just might - have a chance to get out of the sh1t-show mess we're currently in. Put it this way ; I'm slightly more confident today than I was this time yesterday. Just slightly. | |

I think Dyche would have been told the score before he took the job. He intimated the other day that he was happy with the quality of the squad he’s got. Under Lampard he intimated that he needed 4-5 new played and it was hard to disagree with because things had gone stale and predictable. The hope is that Dyche works with what’s he’s got and gets the best from them because, on paper, they aren’t that bad when everyone is fit. A load of blues are having meltdowns for not signing the two players Saints signed. The irony being that spending 50 million here and 50 million there on a couple of players on transfer deadline day, who have been touted out by their agents for weeks, has left Everton in this shit state they’re in. Last transfer deadline day they signed three players Dele Alli, Van Der Beek and El Ghazi who went onto play 5 games between them, including the collapse against Saints, and who cost the club millions in wages. I think Everton are done for, but not signing a couple of players on transfer deadline day won’t be the reason.

The problem you've got Toffs is that Dyche's teams are not known for scoring lots of goals - and Everton have been abysmal in that department all season. We're no better of course! A severe lack of goals - and a sh1t rearguard - have left us sitting bottom and the table doesn't lie. But at least we now have some hope! I still think it'll be very tight at the end of the season whoever goes down. Goal difference might play a part. I still think, even with the new guys, Shorty Jones will have worked miracles to keep us up. I hope he's getting help and guidance from the big man above!

All of the high crosses and corners that we play into the box will now have a target in a Saints shirt rather than being lobbed speculatively into thin air or more often than not to an opposition player. So far this season, I've not worked out who we've been aiming at and it seems our players haven't either. But now, they'll know.

I think Everton are an example that you can have all the "leaders at the back " types ..ie Cody and Tarkowski, Pickford, and still struggle if you don't have some goalscorers. Agree about the panic buying in January as well. You got really done with Ali and De Beek . I do wonder how are new signings will cope with the demands of the Prem compared to the easier leagues they've got used to playing in. Hoping it works for us this time around but I've got my doubts.

I think the lack of goals conceded and going for the odd goal from set pieces and showing a lot more fight should get more points than they have got from the last seven-eight games. It’s been so powder puff stuff and no change of players would have altered that. A new nastier approach is the only way. Hopefully Dyche can sort it.
| So now the window is shut.... on 14:38 - Feb 1 with 1126 views | SFC_Referee | Did you not watch Salisu last night? As he gave away the ball soo often, and was soo poor, whilst Bednerak, who I didn’t understand one bit of how he made the starting 11, wasn’t actually even that bad, and actually had a fairly decent game. And Lyanco has been great since the Forest game, although wasn’t at his best last night, but nether has Bella-Kotcha recently. So really the only centre half that should be starting every week is Caleta car, as the rest have had their forms very since the World Cup ended. But even then he barely played before the World Cup so could have a poor run for the moment, so even then within a few weeks their forms may have all changed, so really I don’t think any of them should be guaranteed a place whatsoever for the rest of the season or even Saturday! | |

yeah i did and he spent a fair chunk at leftback. Lyanco is a liability and not good enough

The rest are bench warmers, and d3finitely we have to dispense with the farcical 5 at the back it is laughable to even try it when every trial brings the same embarrassing mess.

100% agree with this. Everton have six centre halves, Godfrey, Tarkovski, Coady, Keane, Mina and Holgate. All of them will be on top whack. Plus Branthwaite who’s very decent on loan at PSV. They have two centre forwards. Absolute sham recruiment.

And yet after the game he says 'WE gave ourselves a mountain to climb" No WE didn't, he did with the same old five at the back, players out of position and sideways Diallo still starting. I'll freely admit I moaned about Puel, Pellegrino and Hassenhutl at the end, but this clown? I don't want to watch another Saints game with him in charge - last night, yelling, bouncing about, biting his nails, even picking his nose at one stage. Selles sits there with the resigned look of the man selected to watch the monkey. FFS.

I had the distinct impression they were aiming at the goalie, JWP included.
