Back to Championship (tactically) 15:27 - Feb 1 with 1134 viewssaint901

As the dust settles we have a new winger and huge centre forward.

With the rise and rise of the overlapping full backs in NJ's favoured back 5 and one of the best dead ball kickers in the PL - ever - I can predict that we:

1. will stay with the long ball out of defence
2. be throwing in crosses from all angles
3. will be missing out the midfield as often as we can

In short, playing like a Championship team that NJ recently left.

And as we're talking about him, WTF are we doing buying a right back. NJ may say he's "world class" but we already have a world class right back who is now on the left, replacing a left back who might be our top scorer soon. What!?

Well we bought that fullback, Bree as that other one we signed from Man City had been injured and just didn’t seem as good anyway.
As now that KWP is injured after last night (although for how long, who knows?), it’s not such a bad shout, as we do need two players for each position and seeing how 2 of our former 4 fullbacks were out for a majority of the season we needed one more just in case one of Parraud or KWP did also get injured

I disagree (a bit) with what you're saying about NJ's tactics. As I understand what he's been trying to achieve, the long ball is more about defence than attack. He just wanted us to stop passing sideways for ever, eventually give the ball away when we're all up the field and lose a goal as the opposition break quickly. He wants us to move the ball thru midfield if the opportunity is there, but not if it isn't. Man City are good enough to be patient and retain the ball, we're not.

Anyway, the end result will be long balls unless with new boy Charly and a fit again Lavia, we become good enough to keep the ball in midfield under pressure and stop giving the ball away cheaply (i.e. no Diallo, Maitland Niles etc in the side). At least now we seem to have the right players to make the long ball work. Frankly I don't care what tactics we use so long as we stop losing all the time.

So what you are saying, is that the tactics that the other PL teams use as a last resort, we are using as a matter of priority? That must boost squad morale.

If it gets us out of the season in seventeenth place, I don't care if they stoop to cold blooded murder.
