In any organisation, sports team or company, you need experienced heads. Like Redmond said, "a cynical challenge on the 20th minute". The young players haven't learnt that yet. He also mentioned we used to have players "who knew what it meant to play for Southampton". Players who cared, he means. Players who gave everything. You have said that and it's true. I'm fully for bringing through young players. Would love to see Ballard and a few of the other young players given a chance. But as many other have alluded to, McMenemy had older experienced pros to teach and mentor the younger players. I just worry that SR just can't see it. We.shall see over the summer. I hope so Nick. I sense it's another "give a manager a chance, possession based, play the young players" type appointment but let's hope it works. I have my doubts but hope I'm wrong | |

One extra CB would not have made any difference. It mattered but it would not have made any difference. We lacked experience across the team. Losing Forster and Romeu was equally if not more important, plus we were still suffering from the loss of Ings. We needed an entire new spine of experienced players and leaders last summer. Instead we just got kids. | | | |
