I thought it was our best win of the season so far .

West Brom were a big strong side , I think every one of their players were taller and wider than ours.

We rode our luck a bit but I thought we showed a lot of character to not only get ourselves back in front but also hold onto the lead .

Although we let another goal in our side now looks a lot more solid and we’ve cut out a lot of the errors we were making a month or so ago .

Despite his young age Harwood-Bellis looks like the leader at the back we have been screaming out for the last few seasons .

30,000 odd there if pompey were getting those crowds both Bbc and itv local news would not stop going on about it .

For some reason we don’t get the credit in the local media our home support deserves .

I agree with you 100%. I said to the family and people around me that this feels like a vital, massively important win. West Brom, I felt was one of the most difficult games of the season and we really had to play well to win. They will be up there come the end of the season, and to beat them felt like a big moment.

We may look at this as a pivotal point of the season, over the past few weeks we have been building momentum, but there was a section of the supporters who were still not convinced about the players or the manager.

I think this game went a long way to show people that we are genuine promotion contenders and that we are getting stronger by the week

Yep, you're spot on that this win showed that we are serious contenders - such an.important win. I'm starting to genuinely believe that we can catch the top two, time is on our side. I would love to see us get the job done earlier in games rather than such tense tight wins, but genuinely loving the championship. It's going to be an exciting second half of the season. I think Leeds, lpswich and Leicester will fight us all the way.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, as I sense a reaction was being sought here…..

Russell Martin is a manager with a record of going on streaks, both of wins and then a few defeats on the trot.

I’m loving the wins.

But we are a Harwood-Bellis injury away from falling back into mid-table. He was immense again yesterday and has become our most important player. He is improving the form of everyone around him, including Bazunu.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?

The games are tight wins so I have some understanding of your view, (I want to see us win more convincingly), but im not sure I agree about us being mid table. I like RM, having said that I also liked Ralph. I'm enjoying watching Saints at the moment l feel the players are giving their all. I'm becoming increasingly confident (maybe wrongly) that we are really developing into a good side that wins. Stewart will add more goals. I think we can do it and the second half.of the season will be fun. Famous last words!!

I wasnt looking for a reaction from anyone, I was just reacting to comments on here, last season swansea did have two good runs, one mid season and one at the end, but it is in a different context from here, at Swansea he was at a club with limited resources, at Southampton he has a large squad and one with perhaps two choices in every position.

That being the case if THB did get a longer term injury we still have the option of Mason Holgate who was excellent yesterday and the returning Jack Stephens as well as potentially playing Shea Charles there.

When THB missed the Preston game we coped and got a draw against one of the top clubs in the division on their patch.

I’m not sure Nick was looking for a reaction this time, maybe it’s sensitive Pat now.

We gave away two poor goals at Preston and were lucky to escape with a point.

Whenever Preston attacked, we looked vulnerable.

None of the names you mention fill me with confidence defensively.

But we still got a point, that is the sign of a good team, when you can play badly and still get a result against a good side.

When will you be filled with confidence, we now have a defence that has had to make changes quite a few times and each time they still perform.

We have won 6 of the last 8 matches, drawn the other two and conceded just 7 goals, no other team has won more points in the last 5 games than us.

A good first half, a poor start to the second, got lucky a few times (I hope that does not desert us in the last ten games of the season) but stuck at it and scored a decent second goal.

It seems to me that teams work us out after the first half and come out with a plan which sees them play 10 yards higher up the pitch which closes the spaces we want to play in. They do that because they know we will not send a long ball over their high line and let Sulemann et al use their pace, preferring instead to try to find passing space.

I'm sure RM knows this is an issue yet he doesn't seem to be able to solve it. Perhaps it's a confidence thing in the team rather than a lack of managerial direction?

Teams going for promotion etc in a league season need to be able to play in different ways and to be comfortable in those patterns. I'm not convinced we are yet and I hope that will not cost us.

We should take the points against a strong rival at face value for now and consolidate with what should be a couple of easier games coming up.

If we can get to within six points of the top two by Christmas, we may be able to launch a campaign.

We do though need to find an alternative system for when the passing space closes down.
