Up until he was injured, Smallbone was one of our best players and we lost control of the game when he went off. His injury was the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't think I can ever recall a season when we were as unlucky with injuries as this one. At this rate, there will soon be no one left.
There is a sly new foul this season, which Leicester players, such as Maddison, are very good at. It is to kick an opponent's foot from the side when it is in the air, making at look as though you were trying to kick the ball and it was just an accident. They know if you kick the heel, the ref will give a yellow card but from the side they rarely even give a free-kick. It was such a foul that finally did for Smallbone as the kick to his foot twisted his knee, which had just been jarred by a previous collision. Leicester are a team who deliberately injure a lot of players but rarely get injured themselves, which is why they were at full strength against us. [Post edited 17 Jan 2021 8:24]
