I flew into Pune a city about 3 hours drive south of Bombay ( Mumbai ) and it was rammed full of Migs , so I guess they rely on the Ruskies for all their military hardware. I like you don't agree but with the tension with Pakistan I guess its understandable. |  |

As long as countries have vetos I’m not sure how they go about amending the rules but it does seem crazy that a country in question can veto any move against itself. The UN itself was a great idea but like the League of Nations before it, it basically has hamstrung itself by allowing members who become aggressors to prevent action against themselves. |  | | |

I guessed it would be something like that Bison. Makes you wonder what India spend our aid on doesn't it - purchasing Russian military equipment.
More broadly, Russia and China would love nothing more than land access to ports on the Indian Ocean. It would give them a gateway to the Middle East, Africa and the South Atlantic. Russia (then Soviet Union) invaded Afghanistan because they hoped that would open the door to Pakistan and the Indian Ocean - thankfully they got a bloody nose in Afghanistan (like so many foreign powers) and the Soviet Union was descending into bankruptcy. | | | |
