5 Things About Izmir/Goztepe 20:06 - Jul 17 with 1020 viewsSaintNick

1. Goztepe's ground (Their usual one) does not look like a football stadium, you can stand outside and not realise it is there, it seems to be built in the middle of a square office block.

2. Goztepe's supporters were superb, if they came to St Mary's they would be appalled at the standar of our support compared to theirs, this was a pre season friendly, god knows what they would be like in their real ground for a league game.

3. Izmir is a massive city, but not a lot to do tourist wise, but the transport was cheap and so was beer.

4. Some of the lads were in the same hotel as the team, they liked Russell Martin who they said was quite switched on with a sense of humour.

5. I have never been so scared as I was in the txi to the airport this morning, the driver was literally mad, he drove at speed, weaving out of the traffic and forcing other cars to stop and let him through, he used his horn a lot but never his indicators,

If you don’t like the atmosphere at home games, try making a bit of noise.

I appreciate that everyone supports the team in their own way, not everyone who goes to see a football team wants to sing for most of the game.

If you go to club games abroad their fans are well organised and keep it going for the entire 90 minutes, Goztepe showed how it was done

There is no set of fans in this country anything like as loud as Turkish fans. Or indeed fans of clubs in Greece or Poland.

It is just how it is.

This is not news.

It doesn’t need to be yet another stick to beat Saints fans with.

I agree. Everyone knows that Turkish fans in general are lunatics, they have a very fiery nature and they are far more passionate than any other English club’s fans bar none.
