My 50th Year Anniversary Of Watching Saints Today
Great report Nick. I’m a bit behind you but with many similar memories, albeit I was a neutral when I first went in the 70s. Moving to a school in PortsMouth soon changed that and my personal very costly (in terms of cash AND emotion!) addiction began. Hope you enjoy today!

Your summary of Ings is spot on. Clearly he is not the man we thought he was. In reality, just a shallow mercenary and the extra money he receives for the next year or two can never buy him the respect and affection he would have had had he stayed. He’ll have a long time being retired to ponder that…

Point of order. Fans of the so called big 6 are NOT just the same as other fans.
Fans of those clubs experience regular success whereas the rest, with the increasingly odd exception, do not. Their level of self importance, expectation and arrogance is off the scale compared to the majority of clubs.
Plus you also forgot that for ‘fans’ of Liverpool it just means more....
Should Southampton Bring Calum Chambers Back To St Mary's
I agree, he’d be a good addition. He looked very good for us and like many who leave Saints doesn’t seem to have done as well as he he should. Another plus is that he never pushed to leave (unlike certain other centre backs I can think of).

Good! Fast becoming one of my favourite players and even as a die-hard England fan it’s pleasing to see Scotland producing some excellent players again.

I wouldn’t say Bertrand is at the “tail end of his career”. Towards the end yes, but he’s playing as well as ever and injury aside, should have a few more years at a high level.
As for Ings, if money is his motivation then we simply can’t compete. So it really comes down to what he can achieve. If he went to say, Arsenal and got an FA Cup winners medal for coming on as a sub, then good for him but he’ll really only be remembered for that in his own family.
However, if he stays with Saints and achieves something, he will be a true club legend in an area he comes from - not just another long forgotten also-ran for a ‘big’ team.
I know which I’d prefer if I was him.

Yes I was there and remember it well. The officer must have though he was a shoe-in for a George Medal as he brought the ‘criminal’ down. It was very funny, and poor old PC Plod had to walk the length of the ground to howls of derision. In reality though, he genuinely thought it was a gunman so we’d actually just witnessed an act of true bravery.

Agree with all of that. Who could we realistically get if they were to leave and at what cost? Plus they have shown great attitude to both playing and the club which is increasingly rare these days.
Saints Still A Work In Progress !
If you check the reaction of Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham fans after this weekend’s results they are ALL demanding better CBs. Beyond them if you look at any team we beat you’ll see the same demands.
Almost every team would like better Centre Backs and we are no exception, trouble is they seem to be rare as rocking horse droppings,
