![]() Thursday, 5th Feb 2009 21:40 LFW takes a look at what could well be weather affected round of fixtures in the Coca Cola Championship. Welcome back to LFW Weekend Championship Preview. The adverse weather across the country decimated the midweek programme and could well do the same again if the snow and freezing conditions continue, but I will continue regardless. Also, at the time of writing, I am unsure whether or not any games have been selected for live coverage, but the game of the day, undoubtedly comes from Bramall Lane as United take on Wednesday in the Sheffield derby. United boast the far superior league position, but the Owls currently own the bragging rights following their 1-0 victory back in October. Tradition proves that this one may not be a game for the purists... Down at the wrong end of the table, there is a classic six pointer from Vicarage Road as third from bottom Watford, take on second from bottom Southampton. It gets no better for bottom clun Charlton as they welcome in-form Cardiff to the Valley. The bluebirds come into the game unbeaten in 12 league games and currently sit in a healthy 5th place, wheras Charlton have been beaten twice on the road since their 1-0 win over Palace a couple of weeks or so ago. Certainly, the form team at the wrong end are Doncaster, who have pulled themselves out of the drop zone with 5 wins in 6 games. They take on Palace at the Keepmoat this Saturday and will fancy themselves to come out on top once more, with Neil Warnock's side suffering 4 straight league defeats previous to this weekend.
The top two in the Championship both face tricky fixtures this weekend as leaders Wolves travel to the Ricoh Arena to play Coventry while Steve Coppell’s Reading are at home to play-off hopefuls Preston. Third placed Birmingham take on cup specialists, Burnley at St Andrews. After seeing another Premier League team off, in the shape of West Brom in the FA Cup, the Clarets also sit just three points outside the play offs, as do QPR, Swansea and Bristol City. You could also add Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Palace to that list as the Championship continues to be as tight as ever...
