Match Thread: Rochdale vs Crewe on 16:58 - Jan 9 by 442Dale | It’s been said so many times that direct football into the half decent forward line we have and getting the ball in the box is when we look at our best. Beesley and Humphrys occupy defenders and create real problems so that’s where the focus should be, which means no need for defenders to be out of position to offer angles on passes etc. It really isn’t very hard yet we keep making the same mistakes with the way we start home games. |
And that's why i'd still rather see us go for a manager who understands this. If the players we have are good enough, why should we put them onto the field with keepball rubbish in their heads when clearly they can and will play to their strengths when allowed There was mention earlier in the thread about "why don't the players have their say to BBM" Perhaps they did... But if so, they're not playing for him at all. Change of manager please btw, delighted with the comeback - at least it provided some much needed entertainment! [Post edited 9 Jan 2021 17:05]

And we were 3-0 down with 11 minutes left that day! We have done it twice away since - at Morecambe and Luton (FA Cup) early in 2009/10.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Crewe on 16:59 - Jan 9 by Nigeriamark | Finished 3-3. BBM gone from being on dodgy ground to being "relatively" safe in just 45 minutes. Finally can we learn that we need to go directly at teams from the beginning of matches. Although not mentioned in the posts, Bazunga had a very good game with some key blocks and saves, welcome back. Between him and Lund for my MOM with Humphries putting in a good shift. I'll go with the keeper [Post edited 9 Jan 2021 17:00]

I thought McShane made us look a lot more solid at the back in the second half, with no nonsense Lund for MoM

Also worth considering how BBM often says that the players have a real say in the way we play with EOC specifically mention at the RCC forum last season as someone who wants us to play that way. The problem is we’ve been here before and we keep seeing what doesn’t work followed by examples of what does, albeit not usually in the same game. What is frustrating and annoying supporters so much is that seeing what doesn’t work reappear when we finally think the penny has dropped.

Beesley seemed less inclined to run himself ragged closing down the ball. Perhaps someone has had a word about constructive use of energy? Love having Baah as an option off the bench, still a much better impact player than a starter for me.

Well there is a plan B, hope this puts an end to that theme for a while. Done is note a left back never has been, but like a good pro will play wherever he is asked and get on with it. With Bola going bac, a left back is priority. We don’t have a player who can even step in there. Roberts was found wanting, Keohane is suspect there, and Jim can no longer fill in. So the big question, a) will the board invest on the pitch,b) off the pitch or c) not at all. Please not option C!! I have never been a fan of sacking managers and diverting funds from the squad. My preferred option is A. There is a mid table finish in the offing if the team go with option A. Who knows what going with option B will bring, and a real dog fight if the board go with C. Well that game has awoke this board from its slumbers and the team also. UTD

Controversial as it may sound but do you think that the insistence of going through O'Connell at the back and the introduction of Mcshane made us more offensive in the second half??

interesting point; not sure we were more offensive, I think we had less possession in 2nd half, but we tended to get forward more quickly and down the flanks - it certainly meant we had a sweeper throughout the 2nd half rather than a CB floundering to get back after a forward foray

That last minute freekick sums up what's wrong with our mentality. Nine teams out of ten would have taken the shot at that stage of the game. It made no sense to hit the ball to the wing away from the danger area. Where do these decisions come from because it over complicates what is a simple game. There was a discussion between players before Morley was left to play what turned out to be a pointless ball. So he either took it on himself or it was a joint decision not to go for goal. Very poor on field thinking to my mind.

Don’t think anyone has argued we haven’t got a plan B. It’s the reluctance to use it consistently when plan A doesn’t work, especially at home. Almost everyone can see the problem and a possible solution, it’s up to the manager and the players to be prepared to stick to plan B, then use plan A once it’s appropriate.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Crewe on 18:01 - Jan 9 with 2082 views | DaleiLama | The ultimate game of 2 halves and an illustration of what we can do when we go for it and the consequences when we don't and play a style that no longer suits the squad of players we have against most L1 opponents - and all in the same game to boot. I always thought we were capable of staying up talent-wise with out best 11, but we also have an almost inate, in-built ability to find ways to self-destruct and beat ourselves in too many games. This schizophrenic inconsistency has to be top of the list of things BBM has to address or it will be his trapdoor out of the club. Its a results business and we are barely getting enough. One point won't do our ppg any good from another home game. Having said all that, what a bloody amazing comeback. Kudos for that and please let that be a corner finally turned for good on timidity.

As posted above, imo its the players who may have spoken out at half time rather than a rousing team talk that turned it around I don't think BBM's capable of 'rousing', even though i like the fella [Post edited 9 Jan 2021 18:52]

There is no option A or B. The club don’t have a pot to pee in currently. If there are any incomings they’ll be short term loans.

But we can still recruit off field staff such as HR manager, first team analyst, secretary, therapist, and so on... No excuse for not investing in the first team playing squad.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Crewe on 19:21 - Jan 9 with 1683 views | boromat | After about 3 weeks of no Dale matches that was brilliant entertainment some great football with the worst and best of us. I don't like giving excuses but I'm going to forgive the first half with the whole squad not having a competitive game for 3 weeks as well as I should imagine an intrupted training schedule. Some of the players haven't played competitively for longer as well with Rathbone, Bazunu, Beesley, Done, McShane maybe and possibly others having a longer spell out. Great to be back and hopefully we can use that second half performance to kick on. I believe we have a Tuesday night away game next

I have been making excuses all season for some absolutely abject performances. The first half today was as bad as it gets and a repeat of some very poor efforts. The second half masks what went before. It was based on high risk no fear give it all approach which in all honesty could have gone either way but for some good goalkeeping, stalwart defending (particularly from McShane) and a large slice of luck. However, if I believed that we would approach all games in the way we approached the second half I would settle for that, win lose or draw. To be honest I think that approach will be the only way we will survive in this league. Trying to play slow pace keep ball at the begining of games will get us nowhere and have us chasing games as we seemed to have done so many times this season.
