Quite a remarkable achievement, considering he was over 30 when he won his first cap and since then he has won European Championship, UEFA Nations League and Ligue 1 winners' medals.
Not for his career. He has captained Lille to a league title and Champions League football. The fans all adore him there. He couldn't have achieved that here.
He was poor at West Ham. His performances were littered with mistakes (such as the penalty he gave away against us at St Marys) and it was almost as if he was trying too hard. The Hammers fans got on his back and then he left after one season - which ultimately proved to most Saints fans that we were justified in offloading when we did.
Since his move to France though, he has been great. A perfect fit for him in a team and League that suits his style - similar to his first 6 years with us I suppose.
Its a shame how it ended and i dont think fans should have any grudges with him as he loved playing for Saints and the journey to the PL. He along with whoever was next to him organized the defence and we havent seen that happen since FACT. I can understand him wanting to maximise his finances in his thirties as he didnt have it when he was younger like most these days.
Nope. He forfeited that accolade by leaving us the way he did. A good player for Saints yes, but not a true legend, more a top end journeyman. Disloyalty is not to be forgiven so easily.
