| Joe Shields on 12:09 - Oct 13 by GRIM | Let's just take a deep breath & consider exactly what Joe Shields has contributed to Saints. Is Bazuna any better than Forster, not at the moment, probably will be but his wages are a fraction of FF's. Is Lavia any better than Oriel Romeu, not at the moment but probably will be but he is also on a fraction of OR's wages. Is Edozie any better than Shane Long or Nathan Tella or Nathan Redmond not at the moment, not sure he ever will be, but again he's on a fraction of their wages. As for Juan Lorios, not sure why we signed him. He's not better than RP. There's a common theme in all these moves. We’ve improved our wage bill but not improved the quality of our team. Based on last seasons results & the dodgy start to this season, it was quality we needed not potential. So Bye Bye Joe & we'll move on without you. |
Bazunu is probably still better than Forster, as Bazunu hasn’t made any blatant mistakes this season that have cost us goals and we’re completely his fault. As yeah he could’ve done a few things better and has had a few incidents where his lack of experience may have cost us a goal, but he can actually distribute the ball and does come off of his life, whilst Forster did nether. As Forster was soo overrated (but like Elynousie, it’s just more people have come to their senses around him recently) and he’s gotten away with soo much that McCarthy and now Bazunu have been criticised for non stop, yet would sometimes would even get praised for being poor. And there’s a reason why he’s still yet to play a single game for spurs this season and will be lucky to get any. But yeah your right on the fact that all these players we’ve signed are on such lower wages compared to the former players we’ve had in those positions, and that many had quite high potential. But the fact is that we did need quality, as without it we were always gonna struggle, but we did also need potential. As I get what your saying about these players we’ve signed and how they’ve turned out, but if we are to sign these quality players, unless our owners decide to splash out billions on us like Man City’s, Newcastle’s, Chelsea’s etc have. Then we need to also produce money and produce quality players ourselves, otherwise it just wouldn’t work. As over the last 4 seasons, we’ve signed 11 players aged 21 and below. And outta those the 10 we’ve got some that have been complete flops (Diallo, Djenpo), we’ve had a few that have been at our sort of level that we can keep hold of (Salisu, Bazunu, Mara, Edozie, Larios) and some that look like they’re gonna be stars, and ones that we’ll be making ridiculous fees outta (Livermento, KWP, Lavia, Kotchap). Of course what we currently think of the players may change within a few years, but right now it does seem like it’s not been all too bad, as for what we’ve gotten out of them, and look like we’ll be getting, it does seem like we’ll certainly be making some money as well as having some decent players as well. It’s just where the club needs to change is that we can’t always rely on them being good, and for the flops/positions we’re yet to fill we do also need some quality in there as well. And that’s what’s gotta change. As really we do need to sign young players and give them game time as we will get stars and will become more attractive for other young upcoming stars, but we also need the quality to make up for the ones that don’t work out and always have them as the backbone to the club, as many stars will leave us, yet these quality more experienced players hopefully we can keep hold of. So I wouldn’t necessarily say that Joe’s time here has been poor, but it’s not like it’s been perfect ether | |
