If we pull out someone will take our place, the tournament will go ahead anyway and we'll be sat at home. It's far too late in the day to make a stand about it now, if we were going to do should have been a few years ago.
When we held the world Cup in 66 it was illegal to be gay in this country still so I think we'd be absolute hypocrites to kick off about playing a world cup in a country where being gay is a crime.
We've also just had the heavyweight boxing title fought for in Saudi Arabia and no thought to pull out of that either

Fortunately we live in a county that has moved forward and hopefully all of us would agree that those laws were completely wrong. That shouldn’t stop us from criticising countries where they still prevail today.
By that same logic, we can’t criticise Iran for their treatment of women because once upon a time women suffered similar crimes in this country.

Broadly where I’m at with it all. Dare say I’ll end up watching some out of boredom and morbid curiosity but let’s be honest, this World Cup will always have an asterisk next to it.

of course those countires should be criticised and a light should be shone on them which i think will happen, I'm not in support of them at all but not sure how football especially english football can take a moral higjh ground and pull out of the tournament when you see where the money comes from that supports our game. The difference is that many countries had similar laws back in 1966. It’s not a fair comparison with the world today where it’s generally accepted that homosexuality shouldn’t be illegal.

I have the first two weeks of it as annual leave. The first week we’re going to Ireland visiting relatives, and I’m changing the other week to March for the Cheltenham festival.

That is true and it's mad to think that was the law here back then when we're a country who are hundreds of years old but thats probably a different issue. I was just using it to show that this isn't the first time a world cup has been given to a country with those sort of laws in a rather clumsey way.

Florida is actually fairly modest in terms of temperatures (early-mid 30’s) but very humid. Other parts of USA get much hotter and we’ve had summer world cups there and in Mexico before. England played games in the fcking Amazon Rainforest not so long ago! |  |

The heat/humidity at its worse from Marchish to end of Septemberish. July and August are insufferable. Then again, that’s what we’ve gone through in Europe this year.
We had the world athletics championships there in September 2019. The stadium was fine, but then again, it’s air conditioned! However, I went to watch the women run the marathon at midnight. It was a 7km course, but it was unbearable.I lasted two laps and went home dripping.
From mid-November to the end of the tournament the weather will be perfect, and little difference with temperatures for other WC. However, you can still get a random really hot one and as the world is getting warmer, who knows.
The bigger problem: rain! They do get a few days per year and they are as equipped for it as UK is for snow. You know what I mean, one flake falls and everything comes to a halt. There, they haven’t built road drainage and the place floods badly. |  |

You must also have had the bizarre feeling, of being 'cold' when the temperature drops to mid-20s in late-December to January.
If the temperature performs as it should, I think they'll be OK. Plus the players won't be knackered after a long season and might enjoy playing in the warmth at this time of year. | |

I also think a lot of us of a certain age are just bored of it at the top level.
Even when we were last in the Prem I rarely bothered with it, and saw three and a half games of the last WC, which was up on the previous one.
Indeed many of us will recall what footy was like before Italia 90 and how that WC was the catalyst for the game's revival.
Maybe given the HR concerns; time of the year; cost and likely impact on fan numbers; and I think Qatar will really struggle to host this event, this WC might be a washout.
One thing is for sure, as soon as I start seeing overpaid offs falling around pretending to be dead, its over to Netflix.
