In the late 80s that was their average home gate. http://european-football-stati

They've spent most of the last decades in L1/L2. They did one year in the Conf but went straight back up. I took a mate who is a Rovers fan to our league games against them in L1 when they won 3-2 at SMS. I remember Andy Williams scored a screamer in added time to win it for them...

Last played at Hillsborough about 11 years ago so not that long ago. Not sure about the novelty value, we hadn't played at a few clubs for a while when we returned to the Premier League, didn't see us take thousands

Correct they did however they have only played their 3 time in the last 40 years or so. Novelty factors the very reason in my opinion, the same reason as mentioned above why they are taking 3000 to Derby. A bit different to us Bristol Rovers have not got a history of playing big clubs on a regular basis. 11 years may not be a long time for someone in their 50's or 60's but it is to someone in their early 20's

Im not so sure about this novelty factor thing, Rovers only get around 8,000 of their own fans at home so took around 20-25% of these to Sheff Weds & now only a few days later are taking 3,000 to Derby well over a 3rd of their home average. I see your point abiut not having played their for a while, but i don't see it replicated elsewhere, from a Saints perspective out of our fanbase we must have a large proportion of it that have never been to Liverpool or Newcastle judging by allocations taken and numbers who go, yet we don't seem to pick up a novelty following to these games, or for that matter others such as Manchester City or Hull when they came to the top flight, to give an example from both ends of the spectrum. But elsewhere there isn't that trend, so hats off to Bristol Rovers for taking so big a followings. It does rather buck the trend of the current climate in the country where no one has any money because of rising prices, my only conclusion can be they have struck oil & gas in Bristol
