Cifuentes gone? on 21:00 - Nov 23 by bosh67 | I think just being realistic that even if the fans liked me as manager if I was rooted to the bottom of the table and couldn't get a win I would probably be concerned for my job. I hope it is just talk... Let's be honest, if we had gone down last season the hope was that Marti would be given the chance to rebuild the side in League 1, not let go of. I don't see that this season is any different apart from the fact that it appears that our CEO got our players in off Top Trump cards. It all seemed very impressive at the time but now it appears that these weren't Marti's choices (or he had little input). The problem is if Nourry pulls the trigger who on earth would come here with no money and a truck full of expensive injured players and others that are struggling to be footballers? If Nourry is as good as he thinks he is he should appoint someone with some football nouse to do his job properly and at least help prepare Marti for the fight or for life after a drop. But for me Marti has to stay. He is the manager but this is not all his doing, quite evidently. If Nourry fires him after giving him and Xavi longterm contracts then he will be a totally isolated d*ckhead of the first order. [Post edited 23 Nov 21:02]

Marti is not naive. Football is a results game, we're bottom of the table, with 11 points from 16 games. Of course his job is perilous. However, even Nourry should see the issue with injuries. IF the injured players come back and we don't make a rapid improvement, then Marti's position will be reviewed. How ever much we fans believe the blame lies elsewhere.

I thought he stepped onto the opposition well rather than hanging off and backing off as our defenders are too prone to doing most of the time. He was positive and aggressive. Looked well up for it in the conditions. |
I have said it before, I think Morrison is looking pretty decent and could well step up to the pace, good age too.

Cifuentes gone? on 14:54 - Nov 24 by daveB | I've read a few people say Madsen played well, I didn't see that at all, thought he was poor as usual |
Disagree Made a number of incisive passes that opened them up especially first half. Tackled and won the ball, at least once, made a good professional foul for which he should have been carded. Pressed well. According to who scored highest pass success, of all starters, joint top key passes with 4 2nd half faded a bit. But Morgan was poor in the 10, we lost control for a while which was why Anderson was brought on

Ladies and gentlemen, i give you Marti Cifuentes You see, that surely, as a manager, he should choose the team, and tell Nourry who he wants for the team, and why. To not say 'sod off, i want the players i want so go out and get them for me'. To not do so shows to me that he hasnt stood on his 'principals' in this matter. He should have told Nourry right away that the team and recruitment is his and his alone. But this obviously didnt happen as someone 'cowtowed' to Nourry, and it seems like everyone in suits did. I've wondered all season why we are playing someone elses team, why we let a fitness guy literally phone in his fitness instructions to the training ground? I dont think anyone stands up to examination this season. Maybe they are just happy to get a regular wage, as principals seem to be missing.

Dunne and Smyth gave the ball away more than anyone Ashby was 5th highest completion for all the QPR starters. Ashby played well IMHO

How wrong can you be! Nourry is the 'boss' - he can hire/fire the coach/manager Cifuentes was not in charge signings - Nourry and Andy Belk are.

I don't think Cook defended well for the goal either. He backed off Cannon and then seemed to duck out of the way of the shot.

I think it's a real stretch to say Smyth had much to do with that at all. If he hasn't shown for you then don't play the pass, bang it down the line and tell him you expect him to show next time. Dunne passed it straight to a Stoke player. Then won it back from that player, and gave him it straight back. Then took himself out of the game with a daft foul. I like Jimmy, but it was a horror show.

The most damming one is he has not scored a goal. Goal scorers will always have a poor run at some point, but even the average ones will work their bollocks off to get that knock-in with their shin to get them going again. His overall demeanour is shocking. He is a mile off been a Championship player of any quality or description and you could see at 60mins Marti was done with him.

Thing is, he’s not manager though is he, he’s the head coach. Recruitment is down to others, it’s the model most are following nowadays.

If Norry is smart, he will not sack Marti as he has a scapegoat if it all continues badly, and if it turns around, he can claim he had the faith all along and so on.

Around the same time the post match quotes came out with some transparent digs at those above him. As it’s Sunday evening and it’s not on the offish my confidence levels go up slightly. I’m certainly hoping this is wrong as whilst I’ve not been a fan of some of Cifuentes’ decisions, I don’t think he is the issue here and with a squad this lopsided and lacking in goals it really wouldn’t matter who the manager is.

It's a stupid model, then, like a lot of 'modern' ideas about the game, and it's clear it's not working in our case.

I agree to the extent that, if Marti and Calm have signed their latest contracts on the basis that others have led on the recruitment, he's a cynic and/or a cuck whose massively compromised position re complaining about the limitations he's working with is obvious. At the same time, if the presumably Nourry-led ensemble is ludicrously responsible for our incomings and outgoings now, it should acknowledge the lion's share of its own failings in landing the coach with too many inadequate/injury-prone imports. In short, they're all implicated, and they're all to blame. [Post edited 24 Nov 17:40]

A squad that Cifuentes has agreed to be paid handsomely to manage and coach. He didn't seem to be taking any potshots at the higher ups during that video link at the FF - in fact, he and Calm were guffawing with pleasure. Funny that it all appears to have gone south since.

So a completely inexperienced megalomaniac recruitment consultant is given free reign at the club, installs a head coach to coach the players, installs his own ‘game model’ dictating (as a novice businessman and not much more) the formation and style of play at every team at the club including the women, spends a huge amount of money on players that some bollocks algorithm has chucked up seemingly without actually watching them, tries to sell the first team left back all summer, fails and loans out the only remotely capable stand-in, stops telling fans who’s injured, who’s contracted or for how long, lets the Performance Director F off to Dubai so he can take in other wages from other employment only for the majority of the first team to break down physically thereafter and leaves the head coach with possibly the worst striker it has ever had as literally half his strike force… but it’s Cifuentes’ fault for accepting it all? From Marti’s body language all season I’d draw my own conclusion that Marti has likely voiced significant concerns steadily and persistently for at least six months and he’s now just about out of energy with doing so. He’s been a long way from perfect but when you have an F1 car with square wheels and an engine from a Citroen C5, I wouldn’t suggest there’s any point evaluating whether the driver is any good. Chasing the points yesterday, at home, against a poor team and for the last 15 minutes our attacking players were Lloyd, Saito, Anderson and Ashby. It’s a pathetic, pathetic, pathetic squad. Unbelievable to me how anyone could want to hold Marti to account for all this when to me it’s so clear he’s been dealt a stick so shitty that it’ll cost him his job and possibly a stage or two of his career. So who was holding a gun to Marti's head when he recently re-signed/extended his contract? Or are you asking us to believe that the recruitment model was somehow visited on him from on high after the fact? He's not a puppet manager, presumably; he's a big part of the mix. Hilarious that some blinkered posters are now asking the question 'Who would come here and work under Nourry' when Marti's agreed to do exactly that! I'm certainyl not saying the systemic failings aren't adding plenty of sh*t to his sh*tty stick, and I think Marti's a decent guy and probably a capable coach with decent tools, but to say he's not a 'professional' in all senses of that word is naive. To a great extent, if he's not entirely made his own bed, he's certainly chosen to lie in it. [Post edited 24 Nov 17:48]

Seems a bit of a risk for an ambitious manager trying to make his name in English football to sacrifice it all for a few quid more when he’s sacked. Very much doubt he agreed a new contract just for the money.
