Yup spot on, we knew who we were, and when people called us ale house brawlers, or struggling Southampton, or said we were an unpopular club it just made us double down and get into them harder. Now we have nippers saying we’re bigger than Everton, or acting like we have a right to play football a certain way We’ve gone soft, and need to get back to the f*ck you attitude we had in the past.

I know some say that those days were bad because of the hooliganism but I’d have them back any day of the week for many reasons . I didn’t have anything to do with organising the protests against Branfoot but I remember getting involved in the chanting and protests in the stands. There were banners against Branfoot, I suspect it was Nick and Clive who organised it. sadly I can’t see this happening today with our younger element today.

Football just meant so much more to fans in those days ,there were more songs and more fans joined in which created better atmospheres due to standing and stadiums (not bowls )with ends which had roofs which were low down and close to the fans. Everyone seemed more up for it.

The main difference is you knew you could compete with anyone in those days and turn the big boys over and we often did. Nowadays you know you haven’t much of a chance with the money flying about to enable the bigger clubs to buy whoever they want. Football has become too predictable and tedious.

i still have a copy of the ugly with just die now on the front cover , happy days Ha ha ha
also used to get free echos at the ground to keep your bum warm on match days in the Archers.

It was definitely on the march, and the cover read "hope you die soon" with a speech bubble coming out of his mouth saying "bet i don't".

It was made by a mate of mine and loads of people missed the point that it was mocking him for his arrogance.

I had a group of young adult Tarquins behind me near the front of the away end yesterday who spent most of the game on their mobiles checking out scores from other games, and talking about their courses at University. It is all so terribly middle-class these days.

Nothing left for decent, law-abiding ordinary unemployed/under-employed, part-time/temporary laboured folk any more ( no more working class because there are no serious manual/semi-skilled jobs worth talking about and AI's taking over): football's too expensive; top sport taken away from terrestrial TV, including darts.; the price of beer is only for yuppies; travel - get on Shanks's - everything else is overpriced; women's expectations are driven by middle class Media ie far too high to be healthy; no decent housing. If you're 'lucky' they might send you to fight and die in a proxy war or die waiting for treatment at home. Shitty times, getting shitter.
