All 3 Promoted Teams Relegated By Massive Margin 20:09 - Apr 5 with 808 views | Southamptonfan | So there we have it. Wolves win at Ipswich means that Saints will be officially relegated if we don't beat Spurs tomorrow. I have never seen 3 teams cast adrift in the bottom 3 with 7 games to go. The title is also done. What a bore fest the PL is.

It's basically a complete waste of time discussing managers, discussing tactics and the rest of it in the PL, because it's almost impossible to stay up. Cooper at Leicester, Ruud at Leicester, us with Martin, it doesn't matter, you can't compete. The established PL clubs pay more in wages, they attract the better players, who don't want the risk.of relegation with a promoted side, so the promoted sides are left with the players the other teams don't want. That's 6 out of 6 promoted sides, straight back down in two years. [Post edited 5 Apr 21:05]

Bournemouth,Brighton,Fulham and Forest have done ok. Its not impossible. I think if you concentrate on your defence the first season upon promotion you have a chance. Owners and subsequently their managers make a massive difference.

Those teams came up a while ago though now. They are now established. It has got harder and harder in the last few years and I think 6 teams up, the same 6 straight back down in the last 2 years is quite significant. Forest were last team, I think to survive, but they did it by spending a fortune. It was gamble that paid off, that other clubs aren't willing to take, and can't take now with the financial fair play.

I'd like to know how much money Saints have paid in compensation to Managers.

It's probably cost us up to 10 million in total to sack Russel Martin and then pay Juric. Same for Leicester who sacked Cooper to bring in Ruud. It's been a complete waste of money for both clubs. It just means we were not able to spend it on players. Ipswich will have more money than us next season, and will be better placed to come up, because they arn't paying off various managers. We are probably still paying off Ralph! I honestly think had we kept Ralph, we would have got more points. Likewise, had we kept RM, we would have more points. All in hindsight, as RM was getting it wrong, but you cant turn it around quickly with championship players anyway. Ipswich will benefit from having a manager who already knows the club and his players from day one next season. And ofcourse more money, as they arn't paying off sacked managers. It can clearly be done as shown by those clubs, if it’s done properly and ruthlessly. This year Ipswich have played a load of players that were in league one two years ago. They’ve got a great signing in Delap, but then bought two Centre halves from the championship who really are at that level. They’ve then got Kalvin Phillips on loan straight on the back of a proper red flag cameo at West Ham, paying 10 million loan fee plus all of his wages. Thankfully Everton have been able to have a massive overhaul at the club, financial crisis, points deductions, bloated squad etc at a time when the promoted teams have been awful.
