This is part of the problem. Russy has found himself in a situation where finishing second is the bare minimum expected. Managing that will no doubt convince all the eejits who have spent the last three years pretending that he's some sort of footballing messiah that they're right. Those of us who can see right through his nonsense will know otherwise. He's a rubbish coach. Success at Rangers will be just as meaningless as promotion from the Championship with a PL level squad and budget was at Southampton. How a manager exceeds the resources available to him matters. At no point in his career has Martin done anything other than underperform. Rangers fans will want his head if he does the same at Ibrox. I'm all here for it.

| Russel Martin on 23:24 - Jun 5 with 2904 views | PawelAbbott | Its baffling why Ramgers, who have only won one of the last 14 or something titles have gone for a manager who has never won anything in his career. Winning the play offs is not winning a title or a cup, it's being the better team of the also rans. Apart from taking probably the best squad in the division to a play off, he has consistently been midtable or worse | | | |

There again many fans follow TNS dominating the albiet Gog League , a passing interest . Players and managers move on and say the right things for the media and PR . Brendon Rodgers has found that answer , will Russy get his wording right on a contract deal . Potter got 7 years out of a failed Chelsea tenure , that was a masterstoke ,

Feel rather weird about this. Detesting both these clubs but respecting Brendan , it makes Celtic less detestable when they play Rangers loyal Pity both couldn't lose Martin won't last his first season and will eaten alive Egos often consume

Yes, his football is frustrating 90% of the time and he certainly shouldn’t have been playing it with the players he had here. We’ve had far better recently, we’ve certainly had worse. The infatuation with him on here is bizarre. He’s just average.

The Old Firm. Swansalona derby. Master v Apprentice. Only one winner. 🍀. Remember one got Swansea a £7m compo. The other ( allegedly) did his best to lose Swansea £1m or more by delaying the appointment SFC wanted to make, having sold £150m of players. [Post edited 6 Jun 2025 14:01]

think of the leadership. In 2012 we had the brilliant Huw Jenkins. 2023...... like previous seasons we were not learning from our mistakes.

Rodgers is vastly superior to Martin. It’s not even up for discussion. Nobody will disagree

It's because Martin is a consumate salesman who gives a very good interview and sells himself really well. I can't believe rangers have fallen for his sales pitch. The thing is now he HAS to succeed there because there is only ONE better team up there who also have the money and support. I don't think the Rangers fans will accept the mind numbingly slow, pointless passing and stupid, suicidal passing that we saw here.

Been a manager far longer. Thanks to the Swans. Martin getting his first chance at a big big club, that’s the gauge now. Thanks to the Swans. I don’t disagree.

If they win the title. I'm sure Russ will have it on his CV that he was manager at Rangers in the season they reclaimed the title.

No doubt there will be a few simple folk who will insist that it would have happened even if he'd remained in charge.

| Russel Martin on 21:26 - Apr 4 with 1035 views | Dr_Winston | Russy occupies a unique place in my Swansea City experience. Some managers I've not liked as people yet I can acknowledge their qualities as a manager. Roberto Martinez is a prime example of that. Utterly disingenuous and untrustworthy, yet a reasonably capable coach, at least at the level we were at the time. Some managers I've liked on a personal level yet they've not really cut it as a coach. Michael Duff is one of those. His disdain for playing the arse kissing games expected of him was terrific and really spoke to my sensibilities, but his reign was undoubtedly a disappointment. Russy is by some distance the outstanding candidate for someone who was an absolute scumbag of a person and a piss poor coach to go with it. In the interest of balance, I'd put Frankie Burrows at the opposite end of the scale. Good coach, good man. [Post edited 6 Apr 11:32]
