Recently beat the team in 4th too and at one point not long ago had beaten 3 or 4 of the top 6 which outside the top two has been changing quite a bit. Are we worse than Hull or Preston who are currently in there? I'm not so sure. |
No I don't think we are worse than Hull or Preston. They won't be going up either.
I can only conclude a few of us are still high on the post-victory libations.
If you say that ten teams are currently in with a realistic chance of making the play-offs (it may be more, but let's go with ten), that's a 10% chance. Once there you have a 25% chance of promotion (all things being equal which they won't be for us). A 25% chance of a 10% chance equals 2.5% and I think that's about right for us; possible but highly unlikely. |  |

Would you prefer the Sunderland route of player turnover dropping £150m on 'random' euro signings at £20m a pop in the hope of staying up. Somewhat selling their soul in the process, but hey now we're big time again.. anyone still got Kia's digits..
Or invest the minimum in players / Ipswich style hoovering best of champ, bank the rest, pay off debts and maybe even fund a new stadium... even if that meant doing a Luton?

Ipswich did spend quite a lot. Everyone will, every club is going to have to buy a new squad when they go up.

Correct.
It's delusional to imagine that any promoted team won't spend big. No team comes back down having banked all the money, it just doesn't work like that. You spend to stay there while you're there, what's the point in waiting to be relegated and having to do it again? And don't underestimate the lasting impact of being walloped every week because you didn't strengthen. | |
