It’s an appetite suppressant. It makes people eat less, but not healthier. If someone is overweight due to lifestyle, the temptation is going to be to keep eating the foods they like (in smaller quantities) and cut out the healthy stuff. When they come off it, they have lost muscle as well as fat, which puts more strain on their bodies when the weight goes back on. I think it’s probably quite good for people who use it sensibly, but the majority use it as a quick fix and are not doing themselves any long term favours. |  | |  |

Have you tried gently swimming etc? These chair exercises are seemingly getting popular as well not strain on the joints. regular bodyweight leg exercises have helped my knee problems, gentle stretching works as well for me, if I don't do anything else I always make sure to do leg stretches and leg bodyweight exercises, I started to get regular leg cramping at night, I rarely get them now if at all. I discipline myself to eating three times a day, porridge breakfast before work and a cold meat or tuna or salmon salad for lunch and a sensible meal for tea, with plenty of water if possible, only trouble with that is needing the toilet to regularly, my water intake has dropped off slowly but surely over the last few months preferring tea. Another big thing for me was cutting back on my beer intake, I used to have at least 8 to 10 bottles of ale on a saturday night and sometimes a couple on a friday night, I consume 3 in the main now, but rarely more than 4 I do have a few glasses of wine preferably red, |  |

Thanks Max Yeah I've tried everything really. I used to swim miles - literally - when I was younger but developed swimmers knee which has put me off taking it up again. I'm thinking of cutting out alcohol completely in the new year to try and see if that raises my metabolism and getting a walking routine going but without overdoing it and pressuring the joints. Ey op M I was one who packed in Total Fitness post Covid I used light weights and then swam a mile then had a sauna Now , after her health issues , wifey and me just swim twice a week although o walked our dog a good four miles per day I m a strong swimmer and used to surf as a young man before moving here bitIve kept it going although I just do just sixty lengths three times per week and the odd wild swim in summer Just keep going I’m 76 next month so I’m grateful to still be able Mental health just as important Btw have a good 2026 you tw@t |  |

Thing is Joesus , swimming puts less pressure on the joints and you can go as slow or quick as you want That said my wife’s heart attack on our local pool was not down to excessive excursion If under 60 I’d say swim as fast as you can ,then rest then go again At my age it’s more a case of simply exercising the heart gently and improving or maintaining endurance Cycling is good too but drivers are a big factor in driving me off public roads Chris BoardmN used to train here and was very sociable He dreaded being put on the roads so went off early morning to have his coffee shot |  |

I will always extol the benefits of walking/hiking 10 or 15 miles a day in the great outdoors and studies support the notion it’s absolutely fantastic for you, great for your mental health too as you’re out in the sunlight, smells of nature etc. don’t get that as much in a gym or pool. |  |

I get bored easily and swim pools aren’t as aesthetically pleasing as the open sea or lakes or rivers For me , that means a trip to wales normally Bala or Benllech Cold water isn’t as therapeutic as they suggest for me as the shock of cold water can give your heart too much That long walking is a challenge but yeah good for mental health Good health to you anyway |  |

Its hard at first at starts your cut backs on your intake, it takes self discipline and determination, the fact it was damaging my health got me started, was on cholesterol tabs and blood pressure tabs Doc even increased the strength from 5mg to 10mg bottom of my legs started to swell with water retention and my feet and toes which then got warm etc, so it was easy for me to get started cause I was determined to get off the tabs, which I've done, was 92kgs start of the week from 113+kgs when I started, put some back on these last week though, it'll soon come off though. |  |

Cycling is another which is another low impact exercise but has its limitations if you want to do it on a daily basis, ie: the weather and for some the presence of hills . I have OA in both knees now along one shoulder and hand ,the cortisone injections don't work in my knees and I haven't asked for the other joints. |  |

Similar eating habits to me. I joined Noom which isn't really a diet just makes you understand what you are eating. I now eat healthily, exercise 3 -4 times a week especially when I wont a Chinese or am planning a day out. Lost 3 stone & feel much better in myself. |  | |  |

I haven't gone down the macro route and nor am I going to its to restrictive and time consuming, that's what they advise when you look at various eating and exercise training plans that are available on facebook and youtube, a lot of stuff on FB is designed to draw you in and ultimately to get you to subscribe to their programs, which I've no intention of doing, I know things have changed on how to exercise over the years and I've seen the advice that's available for the older man on various exercises, but I trained for yrs in my younger days so I know what to do, I've just adapted some of the exercises I do, I prefer the shorter sessions doing all over body exercises using dumbells, got an olympic barbell kit, but its to restrictive in my mind so I stick to dumbells, I do use the kit for the odd session of complex training and doing compound exercises that help build your strength, but I only do them on occasions when I feel like a change. A favorite of mine is the farmers walk for as long as I can manage quick rest and water then body weight exercises and basic stretching and full on body and limb movements, its surprising on how much that helps it takes a lot of strain away and improves aches and pains etc. That said I've done very little since I started on updating main bathroom apart from making sure I stretch and exercise my legs, it helps leg cramps at night well it seems to anyway.
