But when you have about a million idiots a year turning up at A & E with minor ailments like coughs and hiccups (seriously), you have to wonder how much better the service would be if these people had just a modicum of common sense. |  | | |  |

This , my local surgery ( ad I'm sure this is happening elsewhere) has only one doctor out of a r total of six named who is a physical presence the rest work from home on a rota system, no wonder no one can get an appointment and just when did it transpire that it now takes a month to have a blood test or a fortnight minimum to have a doctor call you back .
No wonder people have taken to visiting A&E for minor ailments but its got to the point thats all the choice thats left to them. | |

Root cause has to be being unable to see a GP on the day and start of an ailment .
Send us a photo and a GP will call you back when he has time , no positive set time and as I am well over retirement age sending a photo on my phone is a nightmare , sure many other oldies are in the same or worst situation .
Try not to visit A +E in Morriston unless I have limb decapitated , then a last necessary .
Have myself seen and know Nurses after their shift in tears of what they go through daily .

If the staff decide it is minor keep hold of it. Only refund it those who are Genuine Accident and Emergency cases.

As for the main crux of the thread, A&E is treated as a GP service by a lot of people. Some because they're complete idiots, others because their own GP's are useless.
I once got told I had a cold by a GP who couldn't be bothered to see me in person then spent much of the next six months on steroids dealing with the after effects of a serious chest infection, so you can understand why some people seek a second opinion. | |

When I was younger I would frequent city centres in weekend. Not sure what it is like these days but at one time local tent services were available in the city centre to deal with the incapable and those involved on scraps including cut and bruises.
Such services would be paid for by the local histories and clubs saving the NHS from dealing bashed up drunks. |  |
