Tyler Dibling & Charlie Alcaraz 09:39 - Feb 1 with 832 viewsSaintNick

Both came on as a sub with 10 minutes to go yesterday, both covered roughly the same distance

Alcaraz stats were

Fouls won 1
Passes 7
Pass accuracy 100%
Tackles 1
Tackles won 100%

Dibling didn't appear to actually touch the ball let alone pass it or make a tackle, in the bit I saw he seemed lost, wasn't sure where to be or what to do.

I think that he has the ability to be a top player, but he is struggling at Everton, the pressure is on him there, ( No disrespect to Everton here)he would have been better staying at Southampton or going to a Premier League club where he would get more game time and have time to develop.

A few year ago he left Saints for Chelsea and returned realising it wasn't right for him, he put career development before money, when he left Saints for the second time he put money before career development.

Again no disrespect to Everton , they paid a lot of money for potential, but Dibling hasn't got the mental strength yet, to make it at the top or to be playing in a team where the pressure is on to perform.

Its a bit late now, but I think the best thing for him would be to go out on loan to either a Premier League club where the pressure is not so big, dare I say Bournemouth, Brentford or Sunderland, or a Championship club.

He is a player who needs to be nurtured and his confidence built, 10 minutes or so at Everton is not going to do that, you can see he is drained.

If he was loaned out he might get his mojo back and Everton might just start to get value for money next season as he starts to realise his potential.

I know what Solent Toffee has said about buying potential, but Everton don't spend £40 million to buy potential, thats the case for most clubs in the Premier League, you are paying that much money to get someone who can make a contribution, you pay £15-20 million for potential and not potential in two years time.

Young Talent needs game time to improve.

Hes been missing in action since Jan 16th 2025. That away gane Sulemana and Dibbling were ripping Man U apart. Dibbling got injured and hasnt been the same since.

Nick im not sure he put his career first over money, it was more to do with home sickness and not coping as being part of a massive Chelsea system. To me he looks immature and dosent have the resolve yet.

The first half of last season i loved watching him, he was like lettiss but with pace and he seemed to beat people for fun. He then got marked closer, picked up a knock and was probably focused on a move and not getting injured again.

Poll: Has the Ross Stewart deal already paid off as Nick says?

I don’t think there is anything unusual about teams buying young talent and not throwing them straight into the first team, it’s been happening for years.

Forest signed both McAtee and Hutchinson for big money, neither of them are much game time. Spurs did it with Archie Gray. Brentford bought Lewis-Potter for big money and phased him into the team/club.

It’s a bit easy to say Dibling would have been better off staying at Saints and getting games in the Championship. Maybe a few years ago, but Saints had just come off one of their worst seasons ever, hired a very inexperienced manager, having had what was it, three/four managers the previous season. Even the new big thing for Saints, Jay Robinson, hasn’t been getting much game time this season.

At least at Everton, he has consistency with managers and coaches and he’s training and playing with much better players. And he’s still only 19.

Hes your 3rd most expensive signing of all time. I think you would of expected a goal or an assist by now. The fact is hes been off it for 12months.

Jay Robinson hasn’t had much game time this season and it doesn’t appear to have improved his form.

Yes but with respect when you are a mid table club like Everton you are looking for players who can improve your team if you pay £40 odd million.

James Macatee was a month short of 23 and had made 18 Premier League appearances for Manchester City and 67 in the Championship for Sheffield United when signed for just under £30 million by Forest.

Likewise Omari Hutchinson just a year younger than Macatee he had made 75 appearances in both the Championship and Premier League when joining.

Tyler Dibling had made 35 League appearances for Saints, just under half as a sub

Lewis-Potter was aged 21 and had made 110 League appearances for Hull when he joined Brentford, he was not eased into the side, he played in 10 of their first 24 League games, and was out injured for another 4 with the rest he was an unused sub.

On his return from injury he has pretty much played in every game since.

Perhaps it is easy saying he would not have been better off staying with Saints, but that is with hindsight.

It is also easy to say that he has consistency with managers and coaches at Everton, yes he will be training with better players, but he needs to be playing games with them in the League.

David Moyes does not strike me as a manager who suffers fools gladly to coin a phrase, he wants his players to be tough both physically and mentally and Dibling is not either of those at present.

As mentioned elsewhere part of the reason he returned to St Mary's from Chelsea was that he was homesick, at St Mary's his family moved to Marchwood to be with him so he could live at home if he that has happened again I can see Moyes seeing him as a Mummy's boy.

I would like to see him do well, but I don't think he has made the right career choice at present, perhaps it will get better, but his body language says it is getting worse, he is going into his shell, not puffing his chest out and looking to make an impression.

The fact that he had 10 mins on the pitch without touching the ball says a lot, perhaps Everton should make him be a ballboy for a few games, he would at least get a few more touches
