I have been in Greece and went to have a look at two their stadiums whilst there
The first was Olympiakos, a little like St Mary.s inside I first went 15 years ago around 36k capacity, back then it had a good vibe small club shop that also sold their ultras t shirts as well, although they were one of the Greek giants it felt a community club
Sadly now it has a massive megastore only expensive merchandise and shop assistants who didn’t give a damn, it seemed to have lost its soul.
Second up was Kalamata down on the Peloponnese coast, they have just been promoted to the Greek Super League for next season.
Small ground with an athletics track open at both ends and only stands on the sides capacity at the moment about 4,600, but you could feel the community spirit and pride there were kids training on the track and their parents sat watching.
The big question is how are they going to compete against the likes of Olimpiacos, Panithinaikos and AEK |  |
