Had a quick look online at now things are progressing there and was surprised at the size of the site.
Got me thinking it would have made for a fantastic stadium site for us. Imagine a 25000 seat stadium close to the city centre but right by the beach and what an utterly unique prospect that would have been. I can’t think of another ground like that but am happy to be proved wrong.
Obviously it could never have happened as the money from the shopping park was needed but it would have been a hell of a stadium site and sight. I wonder was it ever considered when sites for the then White Rock were searched for? |  | | |  |

Unfortunately a stadium of that size just wouldn't be a great fit there. Roads and parking would be an absolute nightmare.

I was thinking the same. A great spot unfortunately hamstrung by narrow streets and poor access. It would have had excellent carparking with the adjacent land nearby . Getting away after a match would not have been fun though. | | | |

Issue with that is.... Cardiff are owned by the WRU, so by default it would be a conflict of interest for them to effectively bid and approve their own application (I'd argue there's already a conflict of interest with them already guaranteeing Cardiff a licence).
They could have easily have reduced down to three regions naturally by not stepping in and saving Cardiff. Now that they have they're all in - and they won't be happy until we have a model of that similar to Ireland where the capital city will be the "super" region and provide the majority of the pathway and players to the national team. They want as much control as possible. | | | |

Leinster u18s came over on tour last summer and wiped the floor with our u18s regions. More height, strength and pace, they brought a couple of hundred supporters overs as well. Apparently there are two separate teams Leinster u18s and Leinster u18s schools/colleges. | | | |

We're a different model, the only similarities are both countries have four professional teams. That's where the similarities end. They've had "regions" for far more years embedded on their culture, have higher budgets and supported financially by the state.
We can't compare ourselves to the Irish model any more than the English or French system which has far more professional clubs.
Despite their system they've not been any more successful than their European counterparts. Yes they've won Pro14 league titles, and won European titles at one point but other countries have caught up.
Leinster haven't won a European title for a number of years and Ireland still can't get out of a quarter final in the WC.
We need to find out own way/path rather than try to copy an existing model.
I made the comparison than I firmly.belowce the WRU want to retain control of Cardiff and try to emulated the Leinster/Ireland model.
Ultimately if we go to three teams we may see some moderate success in the short/medium terms of say 10-15 years. But the long term damage to player pathways being stifled with 1 less professional team will come back to bite us on the backsides in 15 years tine. [Post edited 16 Aug 0:37]

A station outside the ground with rhe slip bridge reinstalled.to take the crowds across.The investment costs would be huge needing input from the sennedd . Therein lies the problem . It would certainly improve the transport infrastructure though and draw the tourists in especially if it was a steam train . | | | |

Trams leaving the strand (big glass lifts down from the station) slowly inclining on to a viaduct crossing the main road then into to bus lane passing the leisure centre , Arena and stopping off opposite St Helens. A dream but not reality unfortunately. | | | |
