Archer has scored 6 goals in 7 games for Auxerre . Those saying get a proven striker at this level you’re talking 20 million now even at this level . When did we last pay that sort of money for one player ?

Lankshear cost Boro 10 million, with some add ons. You save the 9 million we spent on Dobbin, keep Robinson and buy Lankshear for 10 million. It's as simple as that and that it is why it so frustrating. Saints try to be clever - look at us, we found a gem from Man City reserves. Just be done with it, and splash out on a proven striker that scored a hatful of goals from last season. If it costs total 15 million so what? Just don't buy Dobbin and keep Robinson. Last season, Hull signed Mcburnie on a free transfer. Mubama was never the answer. 4 goals for Stoke, whose fans said he was lazy and poor. So to me it isn't rocket science. Even Piroe cost very little for West Ham, again a proven striker at this level. [Post edited 8 Nov 13:53]

Why do we all assume that Lankshear was interested in coming here in the summer. We were a club in the news for all the wrong reasons, at that time it was distinctly possible that we didn't know who the Coach / Manager would be for this season. It looked like we'd lose a few players in the transfer window. Not surprising that Lankshear signed for Boro. At that time it was the best option for him. Let's move on, as much as we'd have liked Lankshear we haven't got him. it is what is & we have to make do with the likes of Dobbin & Mubama.

Lankshear will probably be off in January. There are various prem clubs interested in him. It’s easy to say things in hindsight . Dobbin scored a lot of goals for Preston last season and it was reasonable to think he’d do the same for us .
