Of course now they are called "Victims" by some but this sums up how football fans used to be united on certain things.

I'm an Evertonian
As bitter as the next
But for one day each year
I give that a rest

I spare a thought for those lost
And take some time
To remember the 15th of the 4th, 1989

I take off my blue tinted specs and see
This isn’t any normal anniversary
It’s one of sorrow for a cup semi turned black
For lads and girls who went to a footy match
And never came back

This day’s not about the beautiful game
It’s about remembering them
And justice for those who are to blame

2009 marked 20 years
The service at Anfield
Moved me to tears

I watched with pride,
A blue shirt on it’s own
Paying respects
In their Liverpool home

Sharing the grief
But his scarf held high
For at the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky

For just one day a year,
Forget they’re red and white
Say a prayer, spare a thought, take a minute
Unite.

And never forget this terrible shame
As our laurel wreaths embrace their eternal flame

As we all come together
Blue and red power
The Liverbird
Prince Rupert’s tower

Remember 96 brothers and sisters
Who never came home
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Events like smashing the windows on Real Madrid coach do not help the cause.

You would have thought with the Anniversary of Hillsborough today, things like that wouldn't have happened last night

Awful, awful day. I went to the other semi from a pub at the same time as the Liverpool coach went to Hillsborough. When we got back from Villa Park, the Liverpool coach came back not long after half empty and missing a few lads I knew from school.

There were four lads from our area who didn’t come back including a lad a few years older than me at school.

My cousin was injured after being dragged out by his head from the Leppings Lane. The two lads he went with didn’t come back. They were all 21 years old.

Words can’t say how terrible it was and the impact it had on the families, the area or football which has completely changed this then.

I’ve seen comments on here many times and it’s the same self pity city, grief stricken, should get over it nonsense that it’s pointless to argue with, so don’t. It could easily have been Everton that day, or Saints, Pompey etc. It was an accident waiting to happen from a backward way of treating people.

Fair comment. We really shouldn’t compare what happened last night to this dreadful event. We have all been in crowd crushes at times I’m sure and they aren’t very pleasant, but the events of that day were truly horrific.

Almost certainly the case, but they should all be aware of the history, and stoning of coach was in sight of the memorial at Anfield so no excuses

Well said. It was a heartbreaking day. The shocking loss of life was appalling and never to be forgotten. Hopefully lessons learnt.

An awful tragedy. It is a real shame that some of their current supporters showed such a lack of respect last night for such an anniversary. But let's also remember the 1500 people who died on the Titanic, 109 years ago today, after setting sail from Southampton.

It was truly a terrible disaster and one that thankfully I was too young to remember and my thoughts go out to the families of the victims. Justice has been too long coming

However and not wishing to enter the 'competition' but my old man went to the 1986 final with an Everton supporting mate to see Liverpool beat Everton and told me he saw fans without tickets hauling each other through the windows of the twin towers almost exactly a year after the Heysel Stadium disaster when 39 people died after Liverpool fans rushed the Juventus fans.

In addition to the non mask wearing, non socially distancing Liverpool fans stoning the Real Madrid bus lets not forget in April 2018 they did the same to the Man City bus -

So whereas the Hillsborough disaster was a terrible tragedy due to a lot of poor practices and a shameful attempt to cover things up, Liverpool fans have got to take a long hard look at their behaviour as well

Why single Liverpool fans out? There are numerous examples of fans of other clubs behaving poorly. What happened that day could have happened to many other clubs. Let’s not keep this Sun narrative going that somehow they brought it on themselves.

If you read what I said I'm not saying they bought it on themselves at all. It was a tragedy caused by bad practices and a poorly thought out strategy (ie fences) to deal with football hooliganism perpetrated by fans from all clubs.

I do however think Liverpool fans have this victim mentality (and I want to stress again I'm not referring to Hillsborough) where they think they're somehow above criticism.

I have a mate who's a Liverpool fan who still seethes about Sterling transferring to Man City but thought it was okay for Liverpool to rape our squad

32 Years Ago Today on 12:07 - Apr 16 with 1045 viewsSadoldgit

We are all protective of our clubs. We weren’t raped by Liverpool. They bought a number of our players. Spurs did too. United did too. Does it really matter where they went? They left. They could have stayed but they chose to go elsewhere. If players are going to leave I’d rather they went to the top clubs than the same type of club or smaller. It means that we are doing something right.

To get back to the main point, I was at Orient right by the wall when it collapsed to due Saints fans pushing from the back. It was a miracle no one was killed or badly injured that night. That is why I will always be against the return of the terraces.

Yes I agree with your point that our players went to Liverpool of their own free choice and we got a lot of money for them but what I'm trying to say is that there seems to be double standards when it comes to Liverpool fans. And I'll use the Heysel stadium disaster as a point. Liverpool fans getting into Wembley without tickets a year after Heysel didn't think about the consequences of over crowding did they?

When we played Liverpool in the 1976 Charity Shield and lost 1-0 the Liverpool team tried to leave with the trophy via the tunnel at the Saints end of the ground, thousands of Saints supporters stayed behind and threw everything they had at the Liverpool players, flag poles, bottles glasses & various other missiles.

It was dangerous and a player or for that matter a policeman could have been killed, the players were eventually escorted down the tunnel by the police having to sprint for their lives under a hail of missiles

In some respects it was comical, some were had police coats covering them, some police helmets to protect their heads.

People in glass houses should not throw stones (no pun intended) our fans have behaved just as badly over the years

I don’t agree. There are some thuggish fans at every club. I don’t think Liverpool fans get any easy ride. They probably get slagged off more than most. That doesn’t mean that those, mostly very innocent, fans who went to a football match and never made it home, should not be mourned in the same way as anyone else.

What happened at Hillsborough all those years ago is a separate issue to the point many are making. Many died, and for that we respect. But Liverpool fans are some of the worse in the country. Do Man City fans pelt coaches in the champions league? No. Did Saints fans pelt the Milan coach with rocks? No. Liverpool have done it twice. And it always kicks off at St Mary's when they visit, especially in the Itchen North.

It's one of the few games (and other clubs have the same issue) where Liverpool fans get in the home end and celebrate in your face. So every club can a few thugs, but Liverpool certainly like to line the streets and show us their thugs don't they. And as for taking our players, they are the only club who did so, illegally with VD. The only club to do that. So they can be singled out. The only club to take one of our players illegally and the only fans that pelt coaches as they arrive (twice) in the champions league.

I remember our QF at Hillsborough in 84. Like everyone else, we headed straight for the first entrance to the Leppings Lane terrace we saw, which happened to be the tunnel to the centre section. It was fairly crowded when we arrived (nothing like 1989 I know, but it still felt claustrophobic) and so before it got too rammed we moved to the left hand corner section where there was loads of room. The centre section had fences on either side, so the only way to get to the corner sections was back via the tunnel at the back of the terrace. As I recall, there were no stewards counting those going in and out of the ill-fated centre section, and I don't think there was any signage at all saying that there were other entrances available to the corner sections. It was pretty obvious, even in 1984, that if the tunnel became blocked there would be no way out. The Leppings Lane terrace was essentially a disaster waiting to happen. When you look at footage of previous semi-finals that took place there and see the crowd surges in that section it's amazing that the disaster didn't occur years before.

I think you're still missing my point.

I'm not saying that Liverpool fans are more thuggish than any others. In fact, I don't think Liverpool fans are as thuggish as many.

And if you read my posts above you will see that I said it was truly a terrible disaster and my thoughts go out to the families of the victims. I'm not saying that they should not be mourned in the same way as anyone else.

What I'm saying is that Liverpool fans have double standards. They bleat about things that happen to them but do the same to others.

Perhaps you can give me your opinion of the cheeky ‘Scallies’ breaking into Wembley without tickets a year after the same fans inadvertently caused the deaths of 39 football fans. And just to be clear I know the fans died due to stadium conditions at Heysel but imagine what the Liverpool fans would say if Notts Forest fans climbed into Wembley without tickets on the anniversary of Hillsborough. And here’s another point. The Liverpool fans hate Nottingham Forest because of that match.

Why is it totally irrelevant ? people on here are quite happy to bring up the events of Heysel & Hillsborough and use it to slag off Liverpool fans, events that were 31 & 36 years ago so what is the difference with Wembley 1976.

Over the last 45 years Liverpool have undoubtedly been inolved in more trouble than Saints, but lets not pretend that we as a club haven't had moments just as bad and pain our selves as being on the moral high ground
