Skinned Maguire through on goal a coming together in the box and a clear visible stamp to Broja's ankle..nailed on 100% penalty...not even looked at by VAR..absolutely Farcical decision..Atwell shat himself and basically awarded a goal kick...its still making my blood boil nearly 3 hours later😡😡😡😡😡😡😁

There are too many of these deliberate stamps on players made to look 'accidental'. It's more than a coincidence that they target the opposition's most dangerous forwards. Top professional footballers are nearly always aware where they are putting their feet even if they don't look at them. But, it appears that unless the player is looking at the foot he is stamping with, refs won't award a free-kick, let alone show a card.

As if the likes of Southampton were ever going to be awarded a penalty... at Old Trafford... even with VAR.

I've got more chance of waking up tomorrow morning and finding Holly Willoughby & Rachel Riley naked in my bed.

It's crap Dirk..other end a nailed on penalty and we'd be missing a centre back through the guaranteed Red card..

To be honest if it was given against off I would have been disappointed. The cart horse that is McQuire didn’t know where Broja was. Played at real speed it’s not a penalty. It’s easy to freeze a frame and say it was a foul. What pissed me off was the constant whining and surrounding the ref by Fernandez. The ref should book him and say if continues he will send him off.

I always thought there was a rule that players weren't allowed to surround and badger the ref - only the captains?

Unless they scrapped that rule?

It's a clear and intentional stamp on an opponent..its a stone wall penalty...I think 100% of the pundits agreed. Unusually!!

Professional footballers have better peripheral vision and spatial awareness than most and they know where they are placing their feet. Even United fans thought it should have been a penalty:

From Red Cafe: "Absolutely infuriatingly predictable. Called it at half time, and that's hardly a boast. Not sure why we cannot finish chances at the moment or why we shit the bed as soon as we're 1-0 up. Think we were lucky in the end. Thought Southampton would have gotten a penalty for that Maguire incident late on."

Watched it in one of the local bars..I stand alone in regards to Saints support, its an ensemble of spanish, Argentinian, Belgian and about 3/4 English normally...to a man..16 blokes...it was a penalty....they look at English refereeing as a joke...and today absolutely confirmed it.

There’s isn’t a specific rule saying that players can’t surround a match official, but they can be booked for dissent, or by having an aggressive attitude, as it’s usually one of those two that a players booked for

I'm sure Law 5 is an umbrella rule to make that situation punishable mate..although I'm not 100% they enforce to the letter..like many others..to many grey areas..like my hair and brain these days.

Wouldn’t make a difference if there were a rule. Man Utd have been doing this since the early days of Ferguson’s reign. Don’t you remember the likes of Robson, Keane and Beckham screaming at refs and surrounding and hassling them them for the slightest of infringements?

That’s one of the reasons why, in footballing terms, I hate “United”. Along with any cvnt who refers to them as just “United” as if Leeds, West Ham, Sheffield et al don’t exist, FFS.
