I would agree there. He's the weak link. He doesn't seem to save anything.

I keep seeing loads of people go on about Banzunu today, but tbf to him, what more could he of done? As none of those 4 goals are his fault, and he did pull of a cracking save wen they had the 3v1 counter attack. Like all these goals are just the defence/midfields fault, as you can’t exactly be expecting him to save any of the 4 they did get

I thought he could of done better with the 2nd and 3rd. The 2nd his positioning was all wrong, he was to close to the near post. From that angle he shouldnt of been getting beaten. The 3rd i thought he was leaden feet when he should of been diving. Even the first his body seems to shrink rather than makiing himself big.

Positioning right or wrong, but their second one was a powerhouser straight into the top right, which even the world class keepers would struggle to save. As you say he’s too close to the near post, but even if he’d of been further away he still would never of saved that one, as it was just a cracking goal that you can’t expect any keeper to save, and if he had been further from the front post then the forward may have been able to slip one past him there instead. But the 3rd one I can understand a little more, but again for the keepers we’re gonna be able to attract I don’t see us being able to criticise a goalie for letting that one in or expecting them to save a majority of those sorta shots. Although after just seeing the highlights a bit better on the ITV show, it’s only whoever was meant to be marking him, who you can blame for that goal As I do sometimes feel for the keepers here, as it almost seems to be the go to guy to blame whenever we concede more than a goal, and as much as McCarthy and Bazunu have been poor at times and Bazunu sure did mess up a few times in those pre season friendlies, he’s not made any major mess ups leading to a goal yet in the championship. And yet you get many acting like if we’d had an average championship goalie today, we’d of won the game something like 4-2 or something, even though it was the defence and midfield that were poor for all their goals and should’ve stopped all bar maybe their 2nd goal (which sure was a cracker) [Post edited 12 Aug 2023 23:58]

Today's Highlights on 00:46 - Aug 13 with 1508 views | ericofarabia | As good as the 2nd goal was, Janny B made no attempt to block it at all. The 4th goal no challenges were made as the player ran toward the area. Maybe a case of everybody near him had been booked and could take a risk? Gunn made some sharp saves to get his average down to 5 conceded per game in his last 3 matches at SMS 9, 2 and today 4!!

I'm no great fan of Baz but he can't be blamed for any of those goals.

Trouble is, we say that for most goals that fly by him. When does he ever make a world class save (i.e a shot that shouldn't be saved?)

I seem to remember he made one late on against Goztepe (after conceding a really stupid goal at the near post). Things is, if you concede 4 goals at home and need world class saves to stop them going in, that suggests the problems are with the players in front of him, not the goalkeeper himself.

Maybe, but Forster made about 5 world class saves against Arsenal and in other games to win them. Remember the one nil at home, and Forster made save after save? Bazunu doesn't save anything. Free kick yesterday and he palmed it out to a Norwich player for their disallowed goal. He could have tipped it out for a corner, punched it away or caught it. To me he just isn't very good.

But he did against Norwich, when they had that 3v1 attack towards the end of the game, where it was just him and Jan back, yet he came out and pulled off a cracking save and stopped us from going two behind which would’ve stopped us from getting anything yesterday

He is meant to be a keeper of premiership quality . He just isn’t good enough. The third goal he should be collecting that cross. If saints keep him in goal with this back line then we are going to concede a lot

I agree with most of the posts about Baz not being good enough but we have a bigger problem. Defensively we are just not good enough. Stephen's is a liability he's far too static & loses concentratration, he should not be Captain. JB is clumsy & concedes far too many fouls plus gets turned far too easily. KWP is good going forward but is useless at defending & this season his body language suggests he doesn't want to be here. Finally RM, it's early days & it's too early to judge him, the Jury is still out on him but Perraud is a better wing back. Until we stop trusting & playing Zonal Marking we will continue to concede from set pieces, whoever thought Zonal Marking was a good idea must have been the same person that invented Smart Motorways. Get back to man Marking & make sure our biggest players pick up the opposition biggest players (little v large does not work).
