1. It was good to see a full St Mary's and the fact that the crowd stayed with the team right to the end.

2. Good to see Adam Armstrong score two, might only be penalties but strikers thrive on goals for confidence, it could spark something.

3. The turnstiles worked and the queues werent too bad, perhaps its was the 3,000 returning season ticket holders replacing the Premier League fans who know their way around that helped.

4. Wasn't a great turnout from Norwich which was a surprise

5.People seem to remember the goal that was disallowed and point the finger at Bazunu, rather than the great block he made to keep the score at 3-3

1. The initiative to start a Chapel kop got off to a good start and hopefully will continue to grow. It makes such a difference to the atmosphere having a proper home end..

All I say is give him a chance. there was the disallowed goal, but for the rest of the game he didn't do much wrong

It was great to be at St Mary's surrounded by Saints fans fully behind the team. There weren't any away fans cheering in the home end when Norwich scored or any tourists from the University taking photographs. Funny how the students from local Universities turn up when we play the top 6 clubs "to support Saints" but not when we play Norwich. Surrounded by fans who had paid a reasonable price, to support the Saints. Much better atmosphere and full of proper Saints fans. I also loved not having VAR.

Ha very funny. Can't wait to see them all there then when we play Rotherham in September I think.

But in all seriousness, there were plenty of Saints fans I was talking to in the pub and at the game, who are loving the much cheaper tickets and proper honest football against "lesser" teams. They can't wait to play Rotherham and so many want to go there when we play them away. The strange thing is that a return the premier League would be bitter, sweet. Who wants to go back to pausing the game every 10 minutes to check if a team has scored? Those 4 goals Saturday would have been totally spoilt having to wait ages to hear if we had scored.

I can concur with what you are saying here, most of the people I spoke to said similar things

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned we had the biggest crowd in the championship . A bigger crowd than sheff wed (who I consider a big club )had against saints. Only Sunderland and Leeds could have bettered that in this division. Credit to our fans.

The atmosphere was also ten times better. I can only imagine how it might be if we are winning convincingly and St Mary's really gets going.

Yes, absolutely right. There is a genuine and sizeable number of our fans who are excited to be back in the Championship and that was shown by the numbers in the ground on Saturday, despite Norwich bringing down less away support.

Will be interesting to see if it carries on against QPR, who only took 1,000 to Cardiff on Saturday and probably won’t bring many to us as their team is struggling.

Hopefully we can get another 30,000 crowd.

Some quite interesting stats here; Sunderland’s support is massively impressive.

I would have thought they would have brought a few more down, its one of their nearest and easiest trips this season and like our trip to Sheff Weds, for some of their younger fans it could be a new ground as we havent played them here since 2014 so 9 years

I thought QPR had taken full allocation, be surprised if they didn’t sell out.

I would think QPR will bring down a full following. Easy train ride form London. New ground for some as you say. Don't know much about QPR, but heard things arn't good there, so not sure if some of their fans are fed up and arn't going.

Agree Nick I fully expect QPR to near enough fill their 2800 allocation . ( notice on the website they stated they’ve taken the full allocation of 2800 so maybe we’ve no been less generous in the number of away tickets given as this is down from the 3300 odd we gave out the last few years)

Like you say they haven’t played here for a few seasons and many of their fans may not have been before also doesn’t matter what league you are in it’s always nice to play at a ground you’ve not played at for a while .

It's not so easy when there is a train strike.

The rules on away allocations are not so rigid as in the Premier League, so we can vary them a little, perhaps we are going to be a little reciprocal and give away fans the number they give us

The away fan ticket allocation rules are a bit odd in the Championship. Lots of big clubs with large stadiums, yet they only have to make 2000 available, rather than the 3000 you get in the Prem.

Seeing clubs like Hull, Cardiff, Middlesbrough etc only giving you the bare minimum when loads of the stadium is empty is a missed opportunity. Can't blame the clubs for minimising the impact of the away fans on the match, but one for the powers that be to perhaps re-evaluate.

As things stand, I like the idea of reciprocal arrangements with clubs as we definitely shouldn't be giving 3000 to those that can, but don't return the favour.

QPR will sell their section easy Pat . I teach a QPR fan to drive he says there’s loads going and it’s a new ground for many and just up the road . He also tells me they’re pretty Shyte so we could actually get a nice win here.
