I saw on social media that Saints have sacked their ball boys and are replacing them with their academy players, they are using the excuse that not enough ball boys had signed up for the Boro game, but of that is the case why did they not just supplement those that were turning up with some academy players.
My thought is that this is tactical, they are using ball boys who are fitter and faster and who will be instructed on what to do, ie get the ball to our players quickly and slow it down when Boro have a throw in.
But the losers are the kids who enjoyed being Ball Assistants and now find themselves sacked the day before the Boro game and probably now can't get in to see it as it is sold out |  |

My understanding is that the ball boys were dismissed as they were instructed to keep the ball amongst themselves, regardless of whether there was an opportunity to advance it quickly to somebody who might be in a better position. |  |

This is the first weekend that the PL has banned ball boys/girls from returning the ball directly to players. Now they have to pick a ball up from a cone. It seems to be the future from what I've just been told. [Post edited 29 Mar 2024 12:46]
