I wonder who's going to start against Forest. Lumley isn't great and he's certainly not the long-term solution, but in his brief appearance in pre-season he looked better than McCarthy. It would probably be more of a risk to let McCarthy play again.

I always believed Lumley was well suited with the ball at his feet, but his shot stopping was inferior to Mccarthy. From the sounds of it, the latter may no longer be the case.

I always believed Lumley was well suited with the ball at his feet, but his shot stopping was inferior to Mccarthy. From the sounds of it, the latter may no longer be the case.
He's got quicker reflexes than McCarthy and so makes more effective shot stopping dives. McCarthy is very good at diving slightly too late as the ball passes him on its way into the net, and makes it look as though no one could have saved that shot, when, in fact, most other goalkeepers, including Lumley, would have done. Overall, Lumley is slightly better but he doesn't dominate his area like a Premier League goalkeeper should.
We need a new goalkeeper, but based on what little we've seen of him, Lumley would be the better option for tomorrow's game. He may prove to be almost as bad as McCarthy, but I don't think he could be any worse.
