5 Things About Birmingham 15:52 - Dec 30 with 952 viewsSaintNick

1. The ground is a bit of a walk from the City Centre, but there are some good pubs along the way, one of which was truly old school 19th century, sadly not many pubs like it in Southampton anymore.

2. For a Monday night at 5pm Birmingham city centre was packed, the bars were busy and not really football trade either.

3. I had a room on the 18th floor of my hotel, a great view of the City, sadly it was Birmingham and not New York, Berlin or another iconic skyline, but was what you would expect to see from a Birmingham City hotel window.

4. Good to bump into ex Saints player David Hughes in the hotel bar, nice to see ex players who support the club and he was celebrating his birthday which is today

5.Good turnout from Saints supporters and they stuck with the team, truly the 12th man

The pubs were packed from 4pm.

Couldn't get a seat in The Old Contemptibles, and only just managed to get one in the Old Joint Stock.

There were a lot of shoppers in town.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?

1) The tanoy speakers are loud, with some great music played. Much better than the speakers at St Mary's that you can barely hear and the constant adverts and Videos on the St Mary's screens on repeat that nobody can hear.

2) Came up by coach. Nick's coaches are excellent. We got there well in time, and some excellent manoeuvres from the coach drivers to turn the coach around in the very small coach park! Got back to Southampton about 1:15. All very comfortable.

3) I like Birmingham's ground. It's in the same category as Millwall and Leeds, quite edgy, bit intimidating (hope we all avoided the bottle thrown from above?) and it's an old school place to visit. The Saints fans I thought were loud last night. An evening game allows people to have a few drinks and then they sing louder I always find.

4) Saints at least found some spirit, and fought hard for a point. Other than that, it's disappointing, we have been found out and we will struggle to make the play offs. It's not quite flowing. Interesting to notice that Saints eventually did stop playing out from the back, when Birmingham got so high up on us. Tonda is at a massive disadvantage, with everyone saying he isn't experienced enough. Jelert looks promising. Does this mean Frllows can go further up the pitch? Why not start Sciensa, after bringing him off at Oxford to protect him? Doesn't make sense. If he was going to be rested at Birmingham, why was he brought off at Oxford??? And where was Romeu, not even on the bench. Has Tonda decided he has had his day?

5) Nick, I think I saw you about the 4th row from the back standing next to a woman and the young guy you mentioned. I was in the back row, further into the block. I was going to come down to say hello at half term but you disappeared, no doubt for a beer?

I drove up, no traffic at all until the last mile of my journey, was going to drive further in but ended up parking the car where I could. Ended up being a blessing in disguise as I managed a quick exit after the game despite staying right until the end.

There’s not much round by the ground (that I could find)

Ended up having a pint in the Birmingham fanzone in the end. Pretty friendly bunch all told

My first ever visit there for various reasons, loved the ground. It is a shame they will leave it in the future, I’ll definitely head back there.

Had the pleasure of being seated next to our yoof up the top by the home fans. Can’t fault them for their enthusiasm….

Jam tomorrow

1.Good to see you last night Nick and have a beer.

2.Got to Birmingham by train really early about 3 pm which left plenty of time for various pubs . Went into The old contemptibles and The Square Peg plus the one I met you in Nick , I can’t recall the name. A good old boozer very lively after the game with locals enjoying themselves .

3.There were quite a few saints fans in our hotel, The Holiday Inn .

4.The concourse offered a decent balti pie.

5. Maybe I should have stayed in Australia, 🤔

1- Easy drive up, pain in the arse having to wait for 8.15 kick off though
2- Had to listen to a stupid blogger commentating all through the bloody game, what a knob. All he did was moan, could tell he’s never kicked a ball in his life and played to much FIFA.
3- Went for a beer in there fan zone, Mark Dennis was the guest speaker and said Birmingham would win 2-1 😂
4 - The car wasn’t broken into which was a bonus, what a shit tip Birmingham is
