A 3-2 win at home to Ipswich in 1991.

FA Cup 3rd round at the Dell. 1964? The season after losing 1-0 in the semis to Manchester United at Villa Park.

Same opposition including George Best, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and all them.

Saints 2 Manchester United 3.
2-0 up at half time.
Some things never change.

I can't actually remember for sure but I think it might have been the Arsenal QF at The Dell in 1979. It was just two days after the League Cup final. We should've won the game but we let in a crappy equaliser and lost the replay two nights later. Jurgen & Co would go bonkers if they had to play a cup final and two quarter finals in five days.

Best, Charlton & Law all played in 1972 at the Dell as did Brian Kidd & Alex Stepney, but when you look at the defence they had you can see why they went into decline.

One of them Francis Burns joined Saints in the summer of 72 but played only 21 games before leaving a year later to join Preston

Surprisingly even though I’d been watching Saints since 65/66, this was also my first FA Cup game, although my first League Cup game was Carlisle in 66/67

That was one of the best games I've seen.

First FA Cup game was a 4-0 win over Sunderland in 1985

What odds on drawing Manchester United again. We seem to do that every other year.
