Have a listen to what Dyche says. Breath of fresh air.

Players have their own chefs, their own dietitian, their own personal psychologists, their own private gyms and loads of.money. Yet, they talk about player welfare. Dyche is right, fans are turning away in disgust.

Really is nice to see a manger actually think about what it’s like for a layer compared to the average fan/person. I’ve always liked Dyche as he’s a decent enough bloke, a decent manger, but he always uses his common sense and speaks really well for the fans, as in all fairness to him, I haven’t ever heard him make a single complaint that didn’t make sense/was just taking the p*ss.
Just wish more managers were like him, and they’d all shut up the likes of Klopp, Guardiola, Tuchel etc as it’s the ones like Dyche that help to preserve the great footballing culture of the 1900’s, whilst the likes of Klopp, Guardiola, Tuchel etc, who are trying to destroy all that with their super leagues, 5 subs and stupid winter breaks!

I agree players have become too cossetted, watch them get off a team bus with their headphones on looking straight ahead so they can pretend they didn't see their fans wanting an autograph etc

They think that the rules of life don't apply to them, its strange that its something like 1 in 10 that have covid at the moment but Newcastle are claiming about 1 in 4, given that they should be isolated and tested etc more than most of us, how do they get the virus in greater percentages ?

Because they don't obey the rules

Hard to argue with anything he said, other than that the so called top coaches have been squinnying about the amount of games for years now (partly due to the influx of foreign coaches who don’t have that problem in say, Spain or Italy).

Things have certainly improved for the players since “the good old days”. I remember having a conversation with Jim Steele about how they would be given pain killing injections before a game to get them through it. Many played with injuries that led to serious physical problems in later life.
Whilst I don’t agree with 2 games in 2 days, players are paid to play and need to get on with it. Clubs are happy to take the money and pass most of it on in wages. Fewer games, less money for the clubs and the players.

Players and managers alike, know what to expect with regards to fixtures in the Prem - especially over the Festive Period. We are renowned for loads of games in a short space of time and just so they know, the fixtures are very kindly released each June for the coming season, to allow them to plan for the whole season !!

All these (mainly foreign) managers who think they can influence the FA into taking winter breaks, altering the fixture calendar and changing the number of subs (to the advantage of the bigger clubs) should be charged with attempting to bring the game into disrepute.

Perhaps the worst one I heard a week or so ago was Man United's (temporary) manager Ralf Rangnick. Been a manager over here 2 minutes and already suggesting the Carabao Cup should be scrapped !! Bizarrely enough though, United had already been knocked out by the time he took over and he may well be out the door in the summer, so could actually have zero involvement in the Carabao Cup - ever !! Dyche is a far better manager than any of the top 5 clubs. As is Ralph. Honest and proper old school common sense. 20 years ago, players could play 60 games a year but now with the best fitness regimes ever, dietitians and everything else, they can't.

Although the game used to be rougher it is a lot more physically demanding now. Players run further for longer and the game is much faster. It used to be that you didn’t play a pass to a team mate being marked. Now you pass to someone who has two or three players around them and that is normal leading to more physical contact. Players do get much better pay now though so it is not as if they are being hard done by.

It was equally or more physically demanding in the old days as players basically used to live like the rest of us, they trained and ran a bit but that was about it. Now they have elite physios, top dieticians and chefs, and live a completely different lifestyle and regime, which more than compensates for the extra pace of the game. Plus they don’t even need to sort
out their own homes, finances, change their own lightbulbs etc so only have to think about their top scores on game consoles and social media followings.
Like a bunch of man babies with their every whim catered for.

It was very different back then. Yes they played on ploughed fields and kicked the crap out of each other but they didn’t run as much and for as long. Full backs rarely crossed the half way line going forward and wingers going back. You rarely got a goal in the last minute. The ball was constantly played back to the keeper to waste time. Players ate the wrong food and drank too much. They wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the game now if they acted as they did then. They may be pampered now but they are proper athletes, are much fitter, faster and stronger.

Full backs rarely crosssed the halfway line? I must have dreamt I saw the Dutch team of the 1970s or the likes of Terry Cooper.

So what if they do more running now? These men are finely conditioned athletes. Far harder to get the shit kicked out of you week in week out by the likes of Hunter and Harris than to run a 10k twice a week.

I am talking about the period before the advent of overlapping full backs. We were drilled at school to stick to the winger and not to go beyond the half way line. The stats show that players in the modern game run further and longer and if you watch games from the 60’s and 70’s you can see the difference in the speed of the game. You used to be able to get a breather, not any more.

In sport I expect every modern day athlete would win hands down compared to 30 or 40 years ago , take a look at the list of world records in sport i expect you will find it hard to find one older than 20 years old , so why single out modern day footballers as being special ?

i know you find it hard to change your mind so I expect you will find another justification for your 'view'.

Erm, because we are talking about football and the way it has developed. Feel free to bring in every other sport if you want but this thread started out specifically talking about footballers, Premier League footballers in particular.

Have your family ignored you over Xmas or are you all alone? There are services that support lonely OAPs at this time of year. Maybe give them a bell rather than venting on virtually every thread and ruining them.

Sorry mate you mention the premiership , but describe an era before the premiership then tell me off for going off subject. Sorry it made me smile.

You off to Tesco's in your mask later to shout at the kids without masks ?

Premiership/Old Division 1. Same thing. Different name.
As for shouting at kids without masks Bison, you are confusing me with someone else.
Football in all divisions has changed enormously in this country over the last 50/60 years (not just in the PL),which is what we have been talking about. Do you not agree?

Wise words. Clubs can have a squad of 25 players plus any amount from the academies. The PL is quite correct in insisting on games going ahead. I can understand the top managers being frustrated, because they are driven to attain perfection. But life is not perfect, and nor are they. None of them decline to participate in European competitions because of the number of games involved.

Ok Sogs, but wasn’t the crux of your argument that players run further today and for longer? My response is that they are also far fitter and have specialists to cope with almost every issue they might face.

On top of that if they do get seriously injured they stand a far better chance of rehabilitation and with a far healthier bank balance and (supposedly) at least a basic education having come through properly run acadamies without the attention of preverted bastards like Higgins.
