One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that in 1984 when Southampton Dockers went on strike, P & O Ferries along with Townsend Thoresen simply moved their operations to Portsmouth, never to return.
The crews of their ships didn't seem to have any qualms about crossing picket lines back then, nor did the Dockers in Pompey for that matter.
I doubt whether any of the P & O staff sacked had anything to do with that strike and probably most of the crew members who moved to Pompey with P & O are probably not working for the company, but there is some irony | |
