I do wonder what your position would be now days if Ian Branfoot was in charge. Would you be defending him to the hilt? After all he took us to a wembley cup final....

As for your article, its hardly abusive chanting "You don't know what you are doing". From the highlights that i saw, Raplh changed the formation and we were then camped in our penalty for the last 25mins.

If you look at this summers transfer dealing over the last 5 years, several clubs have balanced the books. We are not that Unique, just badly managed.

He got away with it.

If they had scored at the end when we cleared it off the line, he would have had pelters for the last two days about the subs.

Vitriolic abuse!

Get a grip man.

A few chants of you don’t know what you’re hardly constitutes that does it?

This fella has had an easy ride in my opinion

Have you forgotten what Branfoot endured at the dell? That walk down the touchline and back again each half, the sit ins, the protests in the car park, the fanzines…

I even remember reading he’d endured people visiting his house.

Given Ralph’s propensity to get on his knees and burst into tears though, I can see how his feelings must have been hurt…

Equally, my feelings of disgust at some of the tripe served up by him count for nothing I’m guessing.

Jam tomorrow

So if they had scored from that incident when the keeper dropped the ball it would all have been Ralph's fault then for not bringing McCarthy on earlier was that your point

The Branfoot situation was an entirely different thing, it was as much about the playing style as the League results, Branfoot had only escaped relegation by 1 point the previous season (92/93) and in 83/94 after 11 games was second from bottom with only 5 points.

As for the Wembley Cup final quip, I take it that was an attempt at humour, strangely Lawrie McMenemy was under pressure in 1974/75 season despite taking us to the Texaco Cup final the previous season.

Likewise Ted Bates who only kept his job due to winning the Daily Express 5 a side tournament in 1972, lets be real on these things.

The "You don't know what you are doing" bit was the least of the abuse, its usually reserved for teams losing not one winning with 20 minutes to go and 1-0 up, if you cant get behind a team at that point and would rather sing a song about the manager because you don't agree with a substitution then what is the point of going to the game and I clearly question a person's motives.

After the game yes after a defeat but not during it.

The abuse side of things mainly focused on the comments made on social media and indeed what i heard on the train on the way back.

Why are we badly managed ? We have finished in just the position we should finish in given our resources, us, Brighton, Wolves, Palace etc should finish in 12th to 16th each season and generally rely on good or bad luck to split us apart

He certainly did, thanks to a clearance off the line.
To go defensive with just a one goal lead is typical of his bizarre mindset, which never seems to change and of course the inevitable pressure was then invited.
As you say he got away with it this time, and seems to think that scraping three points by sheer luck was enough for him to give it large on the pitch as if they'd just won the FA Cup instead of his normal stomp off down the tunnel with a face like thunder as if it's nothing to do with him.

Definitely do agree, although I know that many others won’t feel the same way!

As I get why many were frustrated/confused the other day by some of the subs he made, but at the end of the day we won, and if he does that every game with us coming away with the results then I certainly won’t be complaining! As for all we know his decision to take off Aribo and bring on Lyanco could’ve been the difference between us walking away with a win, to us drawing/loosing if he’d not of done that.

You won’t let it lie, Nick.

You say it’s the vitriol you don’t like but that’s not true. You hated the criticism of Gao and you hate any criticism of Ralph.

And it’s always with the tone of ‘…oh but the fans just don’t understand…’ before setting out your own view as if it were gospel.

It’s perfectly reasonable to be fed up if Ralph now. His tactics are frequently bizarre (and I notice that you never address this key issue that many have about him), he loses an awful lot of games, he struggles to stop rots when they set in, and over 4 years he doesn’t seem to have built anything very much.

And results alone are enough for reasonable supporters to think he should go. If we lose to Arsenal, then I make that 16 points from 24 games. That’s worse than Hughes’ total in all his 24 games. It’s enough to call for his head…

But let’s see. I hope we win. I think he’s done enough in getting 4 points in the last 2 games to continue a bit longer now. That was my minimum and he got it. And, fair enough, we are now missing many of our best players through injury.

In a game bereft of loyalty I think we need to show some more respect to our manager.

Hearing Saints fans say they want Pochettino to return - as if he ever would come to a club at our level now - have we all forgotten the way he left (and would again)?

Nobody wanted Pochettino to leave because of the results and football quality. So it's understandable to be angry about the way he left. Now we have one one who's winging it all the time and getting lucky now and again who hardly anybody wants here any more and he gets away with it week in week out.
