Has VAR ruined the game? 17:37 - Jan 25 with 1008 viewsgrumpy

How can you watch a game properly if when you think you have scored and celebrate you have to wait to see if it was premature.
Of course you often get the right result but as a spectacle the atmosphere is impaired.
Controversy was part of the enjoyment.
You now have to suffer the spectacle of players crowding round the Ref telling him to check VAR.
I am really losing interest in the game now.Its one thing watching Saints lose time after time but this nonsense makes it worse.
To have goals ruled out for a kneecap or a nose over the line is bad enough but when you have your opponents fans cheer as well is farcical.

Yeah well I completely agree that VAR’s ruining the experience for all us fans actually going to the games live, as whilst we’re all sitting in our seats shitting ourselves over whether the goal will be allowed or not, with absolutely no knowledge of it whatsoever, all the fans watching it on TV back at home get to see it all!
As yesterdays decisions were both correct, but after seeing the replays with not a single Newcastle player complaining, it does frustrate me that you just can’t celebrate anymore, even when all the people on the pitch think the goals perfectly fine.

As this is the thing with VAR, as in my books it just sums up everything that’s wrong with modern day football. As todays football is all about the money, and that all comes from all those big TV media deals so that anyone can watch our games across the world, which is why they’re getting to see everything, whilst us real fans, get to see very little as we make up almost nothing of all the money the clubs make, which is why whilst all those watching at home are seeing the replays of the handballs, we’re seeing nothing at all, as football cares and caters more for those TV fans from half way across the world, to those real fans supporting their teams live at the stadiums!

And the worst part about that is that all that money it generates is what’s caused football to become soo uncompetitive and predictable these days, and why it’s just getting more and more boring! As really VAR is made for that super league where almost everyone’s watching it on TV anyway, not the proper games at the local stadiums where most people are watching it live at the stadiums.

You say that but ether next season or the following one they’ll be introducing a lesser version of VAR, which won’t be the exact same as the VAR we’re all used to, but still will be some sort of one. As I know a few championship refs who’ve had to do courses for it all it preparation for when it’s introduced to the championship.

Var is brilliant. You can celebrate twice, or maybe them then you. Let's face it to many people moan about var because it catches their team out like it did us and Newcastle last night. If we had var in the final in 2017 it would've been 3-3 at full time and gabby would have had a hatrick then who knows we may have gone on to win. So be careful what you wish for. You just might get it

The principal is right, it's the practical that's not along with the inconsistancy. Last night, at least they were consistant although (trying not to be biased which is difficult) Armstrong's was a hard one to take and not as obvious as Joelinton

The biggest issue I have is I just wish someone would lay down the criteria for it's use. We were sold it as being used to help the ref where a "clear and obvious"error was made. From last night alone, that has clearly gone out of the window

And generally those that moan about it do so only after their team has just dipped out on a major decision, or in our case, 2 major decisions in 2 home games on the trot!

Oh well, just shows WALOB it is, until we start getting the decisions to go our way
