How do,

Something of interest maybe from earlier today.

Happy discuss anything regards Martin, not forgetting that’s not all yiu are getting, there’s back room staff and he is definitely going to want a few players to come with him after it’s all signed up properly. He did that with Swansea when he kept MK Dons. He brought in Flynn Downes from Ipswich.

Anyway.

Sir. Welcome.

Two questions.

1. Is Joel Piroe all that and should we try to buy him? He looks a potential star to me.
2. Top 3 biscuits, please.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?

Thank you.

What are we seeing in Russel Martin?
Bottom half finish with MK Dons, no promotions, 10th with Swansea?
Will this guy lead us to promotion do you think?

Interesting, thanks.

Piroe looks a top player to me.

I would happily sell 15 of our players to pay for him.

Possibly.

His brand of football is beyond question, when it works it’s so good to watch it’s incredible. When it doesn’t it’s a nightmare. He has taken 18 months to get things right at Swansea, had he stayed I genuinely think he could have taken the Swans back up. I think he’s learned a lot at Swansea, and won’t make the same errors he did in his early months after coming from MK Dons.

** You will recall Obafemi. Who left us with the reputation of being a right pillock. Martin has an intense way of training, what is called affective learning. He trains by emotions as well as the normal prescriptive way. He isolates people to learn from experience and asks them to transfer that emotion on to the football pitch to combat nerves etc. It does affect players in different ways, but the majority love him for it. And given a bit of time creates a real siege mentality and close group. Obafemi and one other were too thick to understand it. That’s why he will bring his back room team with him and want at least Matt Grimes and Joel Piroe as well. If Grimes does come he will make him captain for sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if out of contract Ryan Manning arrives with Joel Latibeaudiere too.

When it goes wrong, the excessive passing and messing about at the back you will be pulling your hair out. If you have any left. For most of us he is a solid and brilliant young manager who had the rug pulled from beneath him when our owners could smell compo, plus big bucks for Grimes and Piroe. That’s why he left, he had enough of their bullshit. Broken promises and being expected to win promotion on a shoestring. He will need some time though, and that’s the point, will you give it to him ?

Unfortunately.

If RM is going in the right direction, let him have two or three seasons to get the club ready for a promotion push.

Swansindy - firstly, thanks for your insight.

On the question of time, I think Saints supporters are expecting instant results in Championship, and I don't think this is unrealistic.

The squad we have, together the parachute payment and funds from sales of those that will obviously leave (e.g Ward-Prowse, Walker-Peters, possibly even Adams, Lavia and Bella-Ketchup) should be enough (If spent wisely) to get us back up straight away. I am not sure he will be afforded the time to get it right, given the backing he is likely going to get,

The possession football will not work and has not worked at Swansea (or at Saints). Conceding 64 goals in the Championship this year was only matched by the 3 teams at the bottom who got relegated.

As for Obefemi, he was not good enough for the Premiership. He was given plenty of opportunities and didn't deliver, then just became a disruptive influence.

If we are in League 1, then we are not going in the right direction.

Let's give RM time. NJ didn't have that as there was the urgency to stay in the Premier League.

2 or 3 seasons in the Championship to build a great squad and team is the way to go IMO.

I thought he was just on loan at Burnley ? He was also a bench warmer, rarely getting a start.

I would be surprised if they buy him. They will come knocking on our door first for Tella.

I understand what you’re saying.
As always the priority is to stay in the league.

Football is a simple game played professionally by a majority of simpletons.
Why over complicate it?

My chips are lovely btw. Just offering our experience of two years with him. You won’t get a quick fix with him so I assume he will be sacked pretty quickly anyway.

If that’s the type of player people want at their club then fair enough.
He was persistently late for training, refused to play, was caught time and time again making faces behind the managers back. Yes,a pillock. Must have that type of learned behaviour before he arrived.

And now at Burnley has similar issues, unfit, not training properly. Etc. The words of his manager as well. I wish you all well 👍 but you are going to have to be patient. Unless of course Martin ‘jacks’ in all his theories, training regimes etc and goes 442 wallop !

ATB.

Being patient is not something the Saints fan want. We have just been relegated after being in the PL for most of our existence. We don't want to wait 3 years for Russel to build a team that finally gets promotion. So with that being the case, he is the wrong appointment? We want promotion in year one.

Even Pep wouldn't be able to do that with this group of players. Major overhaul top to bottom needed, settle in next season and then back up 24/25

I'm not disagreeing with that at all, I just can't see us coming straight bck up unless we do a Newcastle, and though not morally agreeing with that, I'd probably take it (hate saying that, but who wouldn't want to be a Geordie fan now. Just hope for theeir sake they don't start getting the plastic Japanese or Surrey fans)
