It’s ok apologising it what they do next to rectify the shambles.

Starting off with a manager.
Someone with Championship experience who the players will listen to.

Is Russell Martin that man?

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

But then he hasn’t managed in the Championship, has he?

I think we made a big mistake last time we took a guy who did really well with Plymouth in League 1…..

The truth is that there is no set blueprint for a successful manager anymore, some managers just fit the club and others do not, as i mentioned in another post, Nigel Adkins was hardly an inspiring choice, he took a few games to get going and no one expected him to get us straight up to the Premier , he was just a good fit.

Having the respect of the players is key.
Jones didn’t here.
Potter didn’t at Chelsea.

Remember the players with Sturrock?
They nicknamed him Wurzel didn’t they?

Adkins, Poch, Koeman and Strachan had respect.

Maybe that’s why Carrick transformed Middlesbrough.

A supportive ownership and board, with a backdrop of continuity and stability, whilst building an excellent, hungry, young squad of players. Steve Schumacher will build his career, reputation and credibility by staying put.

Having said all that, I wanted him instead of Jones

90% of our fans knew they were making a mistake in appointing Nathan Jones and 90% know they are making a mistake if they appoint Russell Martin.

Rasmus Ankersen says he likes to appoint people who've failed in the past because they've learned from their mistakes but he doesn't seem to have learned from them.

But we're in the Championship now... with an incoming Championship manager with Championship experience.

No big name gaffer is coming to save us dirk. We are where we are. Wilson isn't Nathan Jones (thankfully) and you never know - Russell Wilson "might" just be a good fit. He'll be starting with a clean sheet & I will give him the opportunity to see what he can do.

Guys, Russel Wilson is the QB for the Denver Broncos. So, you're right, not a good fit.

Russell Martin on the other hand ...

There are dozens oof managers with Championship experience, most of whom have been more successful in their careers than Russell Martin. Just do a bit of digging into Martin's career at MK Dons and Swansea and you can see he is poor/mediocre at best. We can do better than that.

The main thing this interview shows is how weak their thinking was on the Jones and Selles appointments. With Jones, they thought he would fix set pieces and aggression. That failed and then they just retreated in to their shells and went back to the "safe" option of Ralph/Selles style football.

Ankerson said: “the feeling was it was important to go back to something most of the players were familiar with, the 4-2-2-2 system. When you are under pressure you tend to go back to default setting and we felt like we should support that, there was a feeling of going back to something familiar in the building. That didn’t work, clearly.”

WTF!? That had already failed. That's why they sacked Ralph. Why did they think going back to it would now work??

This gives me even less confidence that they have thought through the Martin appointment.

According to the Athletic, the appointment of Selles was down to Semmens rather than Ankersen.

Which was presumably sh1t or bust for Semmens.
