You do write some rubbish Nick!

"There is absolutely nothing to be gained from playing this game and everything to be lost"

Pre-season games are just training sessions for fans thick enough to want to pay to watch. They are needed for the manager to take a look at the players and the players to get fit after the summer.

What on earth is the 'everything' than can be lost at this game?

To be pedantic, the biggest thing to be lost is the game itself.

You are right early pre season games are glorified training sessions, but as you get to the last week of the season they are not about fitness, the squad should have that by now, whilst not exactly blood & guts games there is some point about them.

Ward-Prowse is going to West Ham by the looks of it.

So the biggest thing which could be lost is the game? Which is not for any league points and not a cup match.

So a meaningless training session game where the result will be pretty much forgotten by Thursday.

Still not sure how this constitutes an 'everything to lose' match.

Do you just have a stock pile of cliches which you feel obliged to put into every article you write and this week it was the turn of 'nothing to win, everything to lose'?

Yeah well everyone’s now saying how he’s not in the squad for tonight’s game, which only goes and confirms it! Although I really do hope it’s more than the £25m that they were rumoured to have offered in which we’re getting for him. As unless they’re paying £40m then I think it’s a poor deal for us

Edit: although now they’re saying this so it doesn’t look like Prowse is necessarily going
