As good as the results have been, we havent really made any in roads on our rivals.

Russell Martin said recently that the 4 straight defeats probably did the team a bit of good.
To my mind that is debatable.
If we could have at least drawn with Leicester and Ipswich that would have painted a bit different picture and we should really have got something out of the Middlesboro game

How can 4 straight defeats do any team any good ?

Its a ridiculous thing to say.

Perhaps on Planet RM, four straight defeats is good, whilst here on Planet Championship, it's not.

If we had taken six points from those instead of none, we'd be on the heels of Ipswich now and clear of Leeds and the others.

As it is we're in a lottery where we hope Ipswich have a poor run and that we can pick up results against the six/seven teams around us.

Teams in this division are inconsistent because many have onw/tow/three very good players and then a bunch of journeymen. Lose your stars and your form dips.

Hopefully we can get close before the year ends and that will need teams they play to stop them from at least getting three points. You could forecast Ipswich winning again this weekend and Leicester are at West Brom.

Huddersfield and Rotherham were the killers as we should have killed both of those teams off when we could have which would have been 4 more points which would have been just 4 points behind Ipswich and just 5 behind Leicester who at one stage looked like they were going to totally walk this league

He likely means it did him a bit of good as it forced him to drop his dogmatic approach in defence and was more flexible in what he asked from defenders in tight spots. It seems to have worked as we passed our way out from tight spots very neatly last night and also got rid of the ball when the midfield was too far advanced to make passing out too risky.

However, the form table is fantastic. We should not be bemoaning early hiccups with a new manager and a new (ish) group making up the starting 11. You can see different styles of playing starting to knit together with the last piece of the puzzle to be more incisive and cutting in the final third. In his pre match press conference he said "contrary to popular belief I don't want to turn around and pass the ball backwards when we reach their box". If we can convert that passage of play too into the second half of the season it will be very fun indeed to watch.
