Apparently in his 20 year career, he’s played 34 first team games…
6 of those were with Grimsby and Gillingham. The rest were non league.
It seems he’s made a reasonable living out of doing fck all, supplementing his wages by delivering pizza.

He arrived as we were heading towards administration and there was a deal done where Spurs agreed to pay us a cash sum in lieu of payments potentially due in the future , we needed the money to be able to stay in existence.
The choice was get this money in and get the bank to agree to extend our overdraft for the season, or go into administration, we opted for the only realistic hope we had of survival
If we had not got this money in, it is likely that the club would have gone under, given that in the following 8 months no potential buyer emerged or at least one that was good for the club, ie one previous option was SISU and look what they did to Coventry, Lowe doesnt get good press, but he stood firm against that deal when the likes of Wilde etc wanted to sell us down the river.
Ultimately we went into administration due to the Credit Crunch back then with the banks calling in loans and overdrafts all over the place. | |

Pretty sure that it is true.
Double Edged Sword. We needed cash up front or face
going under, but lost out big time if the rumoured 25% sell
on fee was correct, of about £20 mill when Bale went to Madrid,
indirectly making Fourpast the most expensive glovesman in The PL, not that he made any appearances!

I agree with you, in some respects, re Rupert Lowe.

It wasnt relegation that caused the financial meltdown, in our first season down in the Championship, we had sold a lot of the high paid players by the summer of 2006 when Lowe resigned
We had got most of the big wage earners off the books and brought in a reasonable amount of money.
We had a transfer kitty of around £7 million to spent to launch a challenge for promotion and under Lowe we bought Raziak for £2 million.
Then Michael Wilde came in at the end of June
We then signed 8 players Wright Phillips, Pele, Jermaine Wright, Skajel, Davis, Viafara, Makin & Idiakez.
We failed in the promotion push, and this is when it started to go wrong in 2007/08, bear in mind we sold Gareth Bale for £7 million , Chris Baird for £3 million and Kenwynne Jones for £6 million, we brought in over £17 million in transfer fees and at that stage had got the Premier League high earners off the books.
There was no reason why we were not financially solvent.
The problem was high wages, some of those bought the previous summer were being paid too much and in came Jason Euell & Stern John both said to be on £18,000 a week at a time when the average Championship wage was around £10,000 a week.
with average gates dropping to 21,000 we were living beyond our means, Wilde had overspent and we were losing money on a weekly basis.
The egg chaser bit is naive, Clive Woodward was at the time seen as one of the most innovative team coaches in World sport, he was eschewing ideas about nutrition and health, he was not involved in football tactics etc.
Harry Redknapp sneered at him talking about how in his day a breakfast in the local cafe at West Ham didn't do to bad for him, everything Woodward came into do at Saints was sneered at by Redknapp and the fans.
Yet everything that he was trying to change is now common practice in football, diet, health, protein, energy replacement drinks, you name it most sneered at him for being an egg chaser | |
